Fuel door mod?

lock caps from stant are # 10504. no issues for the check engine light.

 

Just a tip but I hang my cap over the fuel door. The leash is short enough that it doesn't scratch the paint but it is also out of the way so I don't spill gas on it. I never leave it dangle below the fill port. When I pull the nozzle out, a drop or two always trickle out. Sucks putting the cap back on when it's covered in gas.

And I'd like to hear more about the locking gas cap.

 

Same here, works fine for me. I can't figure it out though. Every other Toyota I have driven (corolla, camery, 4runner and rav) have all had it. What gives.....

It amazes me the things they did not include on the Tacoma that have been on other models for years.....

Went to pepboys they told me that 2008 is the same gas cap with 2009 tried it this am it did not fit so will return it in the am have to go to work. Gave them the part # 10504 that higgi posted and the clerk told me that # don't exist that's why they gave the fuel cap for the 2008.

 

If anyone has the stant, go out, push down hard and twist it open...it opens right up

 

went to poop boys too. They tried to pull that 2008 caps are the same and gave the #10509,which has a push type cap. the cap has a triangles on the cap where the treads for the '09 should be... 10504 is the correct number and its the ONLY cap for this year

 

also 11504 can be it... the difference is that one is on a shrinkedwrap card and one is in a box

 

Got the stant locking fuel cap from autozone part # 10504.tried to push it down and turned it counter clockwise and it did not open ,so i guess the lock is working .have it for 3 days now and no check engine light so far.

 

If I lived in CA, I would def have a locking gas cap... seems like a lot of shit goes down over there.

 

Worried about vandalism neighbor had full tank of gas stolen.just not taking the chance.it's also summer break so alot of kids are on the streets they can put anything into your gas tank i.e. Sand or anything they can fit into it.I just could not comprehend a $30T car without a locking gas cap or fuel door.

I think if everyone wrote Toyota the ball might get rolling on them at least discussing it.

if your check engine light comes on, go to autozone and show your check or credit card and put down the $180 deposit for the obdII scanner. go out in the parking let, scan your ecu then reset the check engine light. then go get your deposit back. most importantly, fix whatever caused the check engine to come on.

Picked up a Stant locking gas cap part # 11504 from Advance Auto this AM and drove around some today (2 or 3 miles) with it mounted, no CEL issues. Just make sure you turn it home two or three clicks after filling.

Tried pressing down mega hard and turning it counter clockwise. It turns, but all you hear is the ratchet clicking and the threads do not unscrew, so it does indeed lock into place.

Yet another key for the keyring...

It's funny, because my $17k 2003 Matrix has a stupid locking fuel door, but my $35k 2009 Tacoma doesn't....explain the logic behind that one to me Toyota...

 

After reading about all of the bad reviews on stant locking gas caps. Throwing the engine light and alot people say that if you press in hard enough and turn the cap that it will still open with it being locked. I got a CST locking gas cap #5791 at AutoZone. It fits the '09. I've had it for a couple of months and it works great.
