Now... if it's not legal to have in the first place, then I completely agree w/ your comment.

Sorry, I should have said brandishing instead of displaying.

That just will never happen. I have an untarnished history and reputation (not ONE moving or parking violation in my entire life, no arrests, nada), I am known in my community and no one is going to question my judgment in a situation like this. I have way too many supporters to ever have this happen. And let be even more clear on this: I have many attorney's as friends and can afford to hire the best in my defense. I will never let a "punk" or criminal ruin my life. It won't happen.

That's a pretty naive statement; I can tell you have not spent much time around the judicial system. Ask Harold Fish how well that works out. Retired school teacher and father of seven, well known and respected in the community, he has spent over half a million dollars on a defense for what ultimately was proven to be a justifiable, self defense homicide. He did the right thing, but made some mistakes, some of the same kind of stuff being thrown around here. Ask your lawyer friends about state's attorney's offices railroading folks for publicity. Having lawyers for friends is like having doctors for friends, they can only do so much for you after you have made a mistake.

whoa whoa. Fellas. I appreciate the passionate argument, but I think I was misunderstood. The whole gun thing was a joke. A bad one, but I was not serious about shooting them. I was however gonna grab my baseball bat for my safety in case they pulled a knife or something. Killing someone over something that insurance will reimbuse me for is not worth it. Just wanna get that out there.

I was thinking about getting a tranquilizer gun. Either that or a 12 guage.

even in many states where concealed carry is allowed...and states that have castle doctrines or something similar...

it could still be considered unlawful to point and present/brandish a firearm if you or someone else's life is not in immediate danger

I don't doubt that your last statement is true, b/c I believe that you wouldn't just shoot somebody for the hell of it. But if you were to do so, I don't think your good reputation, perfect record, attorney friends or money would keep you out of trouble.

9mm usually goes from 1000-1400 fps (whereas a .45 is more like 800-1000 fps)...Saw a guy once shot 10x with a 9mm and lived. Many were through and through

My personal recommendation for home protection is a trusty Remington 870 pump. Lots of people, even those trained, have a hard time hitting their target in high stress situations. Hard to miss with some good ol' buckshot
+1 I got two pistol grip Mossberg 500 defenders scattered around my place. Both loaded with 3 inch #4 steel shot. Snake shot would be a joke for home security, in my opinion.

Joe Horn did it, so can I.

I respect a LEO's opinion... Say this happens and I have a gun in the house and can easily grab it as I run down the stairs and outside. What should I do?

I know I don't just start waiving it around or pointing it at anybody, but I also want them to know it's there... and I want to have it ready to go if needed. Knowing the law, but assuming you weren't a cop, what would you do?
