Toyota Product Quality Survey

HAHAHA...I just finished taking the Toyota Product Quality Survey. In my answers, I addressed all the problems/inconsistancies we seem to gripe about every day here. One of the last questions was, "What features do you like LEAST about your new Toyota? ". My response was:

"Old leaf springs, clunk & dump, and engine lag that came standard with the 2009 Tacomas. Confusing yellow sticker that no dealer can answer consistently, and is misleading to almost EVERY Tacoma owner. Oh, and the ability for anyone to siphon gas, dump sugar in my tank, or make off with my tailgate are a downer too."

The next question is, "What NEW features would you like to see offered on Toyota vehicles?" My reponse:

"Side heated mirrors for a Tacoma would be great. Auto rear sliding window should also be a great new option. Did I mention LOCKING GAS PANEL and LOCKING TAILGATE?!!!"

I also got the opportunity to rate a Miham's Service Dept.

I have a feeling a lot of the issues we have has to do with the fact toyota might be trying to streamline their product for world consumption. I know some countrys are picky about mud flaps... so they use the most strict country on the books as a standard?? It's an an idea that is possible.

Not to contradict you or anything, but many other American companies such as chevy don't even put mud flaps on their trucks. Toyota, being foreign, does.

Here's a novel I deal. How about Toyota Corporate Customer Service Mgr and their Technical Director or Chief Engineer get on some of these boards and represent their company/products. At the very least, they should lurk on the boards and get a ground truth perspective as to what our daily gripes are.

I'm not trying to suggest that it would bring about light speed changes...but it WOULD give them better insight as to what are "common" issues/complaints that could be addressed better. Instead, they wait until enough people complain though "official" correspondence and then do exhaustive customer surveys to determine whether or not there's a "trend". Totally wrong way to run things. While we LOVE our trucks, no company can afford a continued erosion of their brand equity...especially in today's economy.

Before anyone jumps up and does the old "they are a global corporation and make products for a global market and they can't change...blah blah blah"....I work for the #2 defense contractor, we're global, and we listen to the "end user" as much as possible. Many of our programs now use Twitter and other social medias to gain a grass roots insight into what's really going on. That's in addition to the fact that most of "us" are former military too. How many of them actually drive a Tacoma...or even a Toyota for any substantial time? Those who do, are they company provided or did they spend their own hard earned cash?

It can be done. They can be more responsive. These issues CAN go away, or at least be minimized. What I am proposing requires NO additional cost...just some effort.

BTW, it works brilliantly for Firearm, Firearm Accessory and Class 3 manufacturers, as I am sure many of us have experienced on other forums.
