What Octane Do You Use In Your 4.0L V6?

Ok, I know this has been beaten down pretty good, but I haven't seen any poles that are engine specific. Obviously, the four and six cylinder motors are quite different, so I am not as concerned about what the 2.7 motors are running, because I think they are pretty rock solid with 87 octane.

I just purchased a 4.0 V6, and I'm not sure what I'm going to run. I would like to just put in 90+ octane, but there is obvoiusly an increased cost. I've read of 4.0 guys that have great luck with 89 as a happy medium and I've also read of guys (and gals, sorry!) that are just fine with 87. Toyota says 87 is good enough, so it is, but I just want to know what YOU run. If you want, let me know why! Thanks!

I run the highest octane avaliable at the pump. Always. Can't say I actually notice much difference in fuel economy. I do pay close attention to stations that add ethonal, and avoid them.

The rating for the V6 engine has info/results for 87 and 91 octane. Better performance from the 91.

I use 91...93 occasionally.

87 here..... My commutes are day -to-day, nothing special. I don't need the extra (if any) gains from the more expensive gas. If I was taking a long trip and/or towing something, I'd probably shoot for 89.

No Im good.. Ill still use it I get 20-23 mpg and its the lowest grade CO has we have 85 87 91. Everyone of my friends from brand new tacomas to the 90's tacomas all use it and I have not seen any problems. I used 91 when I had my WRX putting 300 hp to the wheels of awd turbo fun but 85 works for the truck just fine.

Tryed the higher octanes and at this time I did not see an increase in mileage per gallon. So I use 87.

I'd REALLY try and use what the manual suggests, only for the longest life of your truck.

I know its better to use the better gas and what not but I have never had a problem and I didnt see a mpg gain using the 91 we have here so I went back to 85 to save some coin seeing how I use a tank of gas every 3-4 days.

Im in the Denver metro area of CO. But we have 85oct all over the state.

85 octane fuel should be fine in Hoyal's situation. As altitude increases, the need for higher octane fuels to prevent detonation decreases.

I'd say at a mile high hes has nothing to worry about.

91 doesn't exist here, so 93, if only for engine health.
