Correct. You will still be able to hear the valve train, and injectors, but the ticking from the VSV actuating will be muted.

Perhaps a before and after video of the noise would be helpful. Not sure of the ticking is the same one I'm hearing or if it's something else.

I tried to get it on video, but my camera pics up all noises from the engine. Fan, valve train, etc., making it hard to identify the ticking.
