This rubber washer fix has done 0% improvement for the infamous engine tick.

Just FYI..

My truck has less than 1000 kms on it...

im pretty sure its the valves, if you get a louder exhaust you cant hear it as much thats what i did , oh and so I went for a drive with the mechanic and my truck all of a sudden didnt sound so bad, wtf? wtf? wtf? maybe its just the way i drive it, cause I do shift really early, maybe that causes more pressure in the motor creating the bagged out sound I was hearing, cause I noticed when the mechanic was driving it he let the rpms get up really hi

Toyota is fixing my ticking at the moment. Way too loud to be normal engine ticking so i mentioned it when i went in to have a new radio ordered... they looked around and found that i am missing a large grommet. I think it is where the lines for the heat come through the firewall... not 100% on that (2 hoses atop one another going through the firewall on the drivers side). They ordered the part and will put it in when the radio gets there...

If ya find that the ticking seems abnormally loud in the cab check and see that your truck came w/ all of your grommets. Maybe i'm not the only one with this issue...

Ran out and took a pic w/ the cellphone and a flashlight. The missing grommet is to the left of the brake booster. Has 2 lines running through the firewall, probably a 1.5"x3" oval. Hope this helps, I'll take a better picture tomorrow.

I had tried this also and noticed very little difference. However, I did notice more of a difference if I just took the screw out and tie wrapped the entire PWM valve away from the manifold. Seems that there may be some sound conduction or echoing going on, and getting it away from that area helps. Ticking does not go away altogether mind you, but better.

I have owned a lot of vehicles, and this sound is annoying.

Yes it is still functional. I didn't disconnect the wiring or hoses - I just took the screw out and used some tie wraps around the hose on the valve to tie it back away from the manifold (I believe I tied it to another nearby hose). Sorry, don't have a pic.

Did this last night. Noticably decreased (almost eliminated) the loudest tick, which was most noticable from about 20 to 40 mph during acceleration. Other higher cadence lower volume tick remains, I'm assuming that's the valve train.

Does sound noticeably better. Easy as hell to do too. Who can't put washers on a bolt?

Has anybody been to a dealer and noticed that the exhaust manifold on an 09 looks more like a header . Much different than the 06 and 05's . not sure about the 07's and 08's . I thought the newer manifold was supposed to stop the ticking. I'm familiar with the manifold ticking tsb . My vin is a few #s shy of qualifying.
Hey Nad, dont give up on getting the TSB done. I already had to battle with the dealers to get the rear spring tsb done. Finally got it done. The Manifold tsb has a longer coverage on it. Thats my next battle.

The new manifold design is due to the relocation of the O2 sensor. This was told to me from a guy who works for Toyota...take it accordingly.

I have givin up because the mechanic says that he has heard the manifold tick before and apparently I dont have it. He says that if I had it I would hear a loud tick inside the vehicle, whereas I only hear it reflecting off of close walls when I drive by with my window down. Which I really dont like cause if I am hearing then any by standers are hearing it to, thinking to themselves as I drive by, wow thats a nice truck but it sounds like s#$t. I have a feeling it is that valve that I tried the o rings on, I am going to try zip tying it to the hose like davatk did.
