"Ticking engine".......(one fix)
One of the things causing the "Ticking" on the 1GR-FE is the PWM Valve (also know as VSV), located on the drive side of the intake.
![]() It is held onto the intake assembly with 1 10mm bolt. The Ticking is amplified by the plastic assembly, but it can be quieted down by installing some rubber washers inbetween the Valve, and the mount on the intake. I used (4) 1/16" thick rubber washers purchased at Ace Hardware. ![]() Useing 2 inbetween the bolt head, and the valve, and 2 between the valve and the intake. Very easy to do. First, remove the 10mm bolt: ![]() Then install the washers, and re attach the Valve. ![]()

Great work Chris, as usual.
What exactly is the VSV and it's function?

Ok....The VSV, Also called Evap Valve, is used to purge fuel vapors from the system and into the charcaol canister.

It makes a little difference in that the ticking from that part is now isollated. You will still have ticking from the injectors and valvetrain.

Thanks, Luk. I noticed a little bit, but the Toyota engines are noisy in their design, so its hard to separate all the sounds.
