Camper Shell?

Anyone had any good/bad experience with a particular brand of camper shell? I am looking for a cab height, white and 6 foot length. Just curious to see if anyone out there has any good advice. Thanks!

Have you thought about a folding one? It'll be black or tan rather than white, but it'll be a fraction of the price and fold down if you want to haul, say, a refrigerator. Or dirt bike/atv/etc.

i had one like what you are saying years ago

now if you want it for looks, go ahead

but otherwise i would do some thinking
extra weight, and wow do you loose a bunch of visibility!
and if i had the shell on i needed it off, if it was off i needed it on to haul parts
seemed like i spent 1/2 the time raising the flag in the garage. finally took it off and put on a hard top bed cover like i should have to begin with.

i think piercedtiger or a good tonneau is a better idea unless you need really want a hard top

just my 2 cents worth

I would have been like Phantom: it was on, I needed it off, it was off, I needed it on. I didn't want to mess with that so I got a folding hard cover. Was the best of both worlds except the build quality SUCKED and it started falling apart waaaaay to soon (less than a yr ownership), and it always leaked. Nothing I did to fix it stopped the leaks. And some of my tools didn't fit. Like my air compressor had to be laid on it's side with a wheel removed or it pushed the cover up.

I love my Bestop and wished I bought it first instead of the BakFlip (especially since they cost about the same). Now I just put whatever I want in there without messing around, and can still open the bed up completely if needed. My father in law is thinking about one for his neighbor's truck if he buys it. Only problem is no ladder rack.

Snug top is the best one I've seen and owned.
Currently have an ARE that lacks some of the quality of my previous Snug Top.

PIERCEDTIGER, I noticed that you own a HI-LIFT. I have found it of great use in my Cousin's 84 Chevy pickup, but on our Tacomas I saw it is worthless at least for the front bumper and for the rear one in order to avoid any bumper damage and for security sake you have to use the round bumber attachment. This lifts are well constructed and have a lot of uses but my question after all these, Do you use your HI-LIFT to lift your Tacoma's front bumper? Any other specific attachment? or any specific lift point at the Tacoma's front end.

Thanks,
Regards.

I've only used it under the ball mount in my hitch. Used it to jack the truck up and move the rear end over 6ft to solid ground when I buried it to the frame in snow once. Other than that it gets used around the house more. I plan on getting sliders and a winch bumper at some point, but the money tree wilted a few months back. I've thought about getting a winch kit for it to make it more useful, but haven't been off roading in months so I haven't gotten around to it.

I understand, I'm very interested on all features that a HI-LIFT can do, even use it as a "manual" winch, but I think I will go first for a solid bumper (if money permits) like the ARB without the electrical winch or probably a ranch kind bumper, my requests for Santa (2009), this year he has depleted all money.

Regards.

I got my new LEER Browning Special Edition yesterday, soon I will post some photos of it. Add to this Cap a bedrug and you do not need to rent cabins at state parks anymore.

Dry and safe since it locks automatically with the truck door locks, same remote.

This is on topic with a twist. But let me ask you guys...I know there is a true functionality with a camper shell. But I just cannot deal with the looks of them. Do you guys like the looks of your shells truly?

To me they look like a strange SUV when they are on...I like the idea of them in some ways but they just look so f*&%^d up to me.

By the way, truly no offense intended.

I like how mine looks! Wasn't too sure about it before I got it, but I had a couple guys on TN photochop it so I'd have an idea. I almost think the truck would look weird without it now!

Well, if you got your opinion based on how they look, I can tell you that everyone that have installed it on a TACOMA and this fits correctly and follow Tacoma's line of design looks GREAT, for me it also work even better because I can secure all my cargo for as small as this can be (proper lock for CAP and TAILGATE) and it release precious space from my cab.

Regards.

Well those differences make the world go round.

I don't like Ridgelines or powder puff pink cars either...but someone is buying them.

God bless our differences!
