... I like it! I should have snapped a few photos of the interior. Thoughts?

After the Toyota T100 truck, the Toyota Hilux was introduced to the US market as the "Toyota Tacoma", thus (at the beginning, at least) the tacoma was just a re-badged Toyota Hilux for the US market. From then, the paths of the two trucks split apart and each one of the blood line started looking very independent.

Funny thing that now, there are rumours than the Hilux would make it into the US market.

    source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Tacoma

FYI the Hilux is one of the most preciated work horses in many world countries where thoughness in a truck is a must-have due to terrain and weather conditions: Most Africa, Australia, Thailand, most south america, etc etc etc. It is almost as legendary as the Land Cruiser :)

Ive seen a few pictures of the Hilux that I liked...however many of them (that one included) make it look like a Ford Ranger variation...BLEH. Id have to see it in person to really know what I think. It has potential anyway!

Heck, if it gets good mileage and it's a diesel, then I might think about it.

looks very third world to me. those "roll bars" are a dead give away. those things are handles so all the dudes in the back can have one hand on the AK and the other to hang on with.

The Hilux is awesome. I used to drive one all the time when I lived in Australia.

We rented one there and drove it into the mountains to Jarabacoa. It had plenty of torque on the mountain roads.

I just spend a week in Nicaragua. Almost every truck we saw was a 4x4 Hilux Diesel. Looks like they offer 2 sizes of diesels in these. Why they don't market the same engine in the Tacoma is a mystery to me but I would buy the first one they make. I don't like the Hilux looks as much as the Tacoma but it wasn't a bad looking truck. Must be tough too because there weren't many roads in Nicaragua that were what I would call nice and smooth (and many weren't paved at all)
