Best $2 spend

I visted my local junk yard and decided to add a locking gas door on my tacoma. I found the handle off an old toyota mini van and the locking mechanism of a nissan altima. Was not hard to do.I was goin to add the handle inside but I could not find space for it. Cost only 2 bucks!

For extra credit, since it is a moving mechanism, you should be able to expand the system to include an electronic actuator, and therefore a tie-in with the vehicle locking system. All the old Benz's did this.

Yea I know what you mean.My 02 mini cooper had this which I liked.Maybe later Ill move the handle up front soon as I find a better handle.

 

Awesome idea! Only one thing... the gas cap door still has the little bump to put your finger in and pull the door open, and it looks like you just glued the locking peace to the door.... wouldn't take much to rip that off. Unfortunately, but good idea none the less so Rep to you ser!

It has 2 screws in the back and I used E600, Industrial glue. Ima need the hump cus I dont have a spring to pop it out when I pull on the latch. Hopefuly it will give enough resistance to discouraged any 1 doing harm to my baby.

What are those other 3 things in the cap area? I do not recognize them.

 

Two are breathers that he has installed, and the other is the latching mechanism that he installed for the fuel door lock.
