TRD Vs. URD CAI

I have read alot of the posts here for trd vs. the urd CAI. But no one really has compared just those two for which one will give the most power, fuel economy, and tourqe. I will be purchasing one of them in the next few months and want to make the right purchase. So give my your input. I drive about 85-90% highway, hour commute in the north east in an 09 trd sport dc. also will be adding a magnaflow cat-back with in the next few months.

 

I hear the trd intake is good if you do some offroading, rainy weather, anything you do that involves you getting crap into your engine. Urd is great cuz it puts the filter infront of the radiator. I was looking at this too and probably will yield the most horsepower. But for me, since I like to tear shit up in my truck, I'm gonna get the trd intake because of the fact that we do have dusty conditions, inclement weather at times, and I do some mudding. I wouldn't want my filter to be exposed to all this. But for you, the urd might be the way to go. Just a little insight. Hope this helps! Good luck!

 

I wanted to get a TRD CAI but when I went to TRDParts4U I saw this note....

Just how would this effect the warranty? To me, it is voided or not. Any thoughts?

 

Because its not dealer installed and sold probably. That's all.

Whether it was dealer installed or not, your warranty won't be voided. The only difference would be it might be a more of a hassle if a warranty issue came up. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is a good thing to know about when dealing with warranty issues.

 

so the URD will yield more HP, torqe, and better fuel economy than a trd. If i warranty issue ever arose ill be saving my stock setup and can just reinstall that.

 

i dont think the TRD CAI is smog legal in CA either

I think the only real difference between the two is that the TRD is enclosed within a box and URD is up behind your grill. I'm sure the URD gets cooler air but it is more likely to get exposed to the elements because of location (I suggest you get the shield). There is minor metal cutting (radiator support) associated with the URD installation though.

 

Don't know here in TW, but in TN do a URD hydrolock search and see what comes up...............

see reading that im very fearful of installing a urd now. I dont do any offroading and dont intend on doing any offroading. I go to work(construction) during the week and go hiking or up to the lake. The only water im coming in contact with is rain, carwash and me unloading the boat. Although should I be concered with the urd in the carwash becuase in the winter time i use the high preasure touchless carwash

 

Please don't get me wrong here, I think URD CAI is the most efficient out there and for a track rig is the only way to go, but for street use, I'm not willing to risk my engine in anyway, hell, I may install an ARB snorkel some day to the stock CAI.

Dealer told me if they install the trd cai and anything comes up they will honor my warranty but if i let a non-toyota shop install it i could have problems.they said they can install it for $180.00.i'll just let them do it for the peace of mind.$180.00 is the labor.

 

Get it in writing. Man, $180 is a lot considering the work involved.
