all you other 2nd gen owners, if you havent done any rust proofing to your frame, DO IT NOW

that chassis saver stuff goes a long way. the guy told me that 2 quarts should do the whole frame, however it was 76 dollars for 2 quarts, and a gallon was 89. so i just went for the gallon. i filled up a quart mixing cup and did the whole front half today. i'll do the back half tomorrow. its a pain in the ass, lots of crap in the way. toyota should have done this from the factory when it was easier, like before assembly. the hardest part by far is up by the motor. the back half should be a breeze. i'm gonna let this stuff cure all week, and then next weekend i'm going to top coat it with some 3m rubberized undercoating.

i just drive on the road haha. i just bought this truck 2 months ago.

i bought it from up near cleveland ohio so maybe they get use a ton of salt up there. i had it inspected at toyota already, they said that its just surface rust and no repairs are necessary. they said keep an eye on it and i can put some kind of coating on it and it wont void the warranty.

well i got everything the best i could. i opted not to go under the hood and do the upper part of the frame in there. i can just imagine getting that crap all over the place, on the belt etc.. theres just not enough room to do in there with the motor etc.. i also didnt touch the rear bumper becuase i really didnt feel like taking the plastic cover off to get it it. so heres some pics, still drying right now. next weekend i'm going to put some rubberized undercoating over everything i painted. i still have half a gallon of this stuff left.

and heres some kinda crappy pics of what i did last weekend. sorry cant get much better, the driveway was pretty full today. just painted the wheels, emblems, and smoked the tail lights. i masked off the reverse lights so that way i can still see when i put it in reverse at night. next (besides undercoating) will be some light tint, and fog lights.

Great before & after pictures. You should consider doing a write up for all you East Coast people with snow and salt roads. I hope you got "in writing" what Toyota said about it being "Normal Rust wear." Make sure your mileage is recorded on that service paperwork. It looks good.

Ask visa or my wife. They both constantly remind me how much I've got left to spend.
I've also had some substantial surface rust on my drums and front rotors on my 09 prerunner. I've considered sand blasting and powder coating then but for that money I'm just going to upgrade to the big brake kit in the spring.

glad i got mine krown coated....
new vehicle warranty through krown covers all body and frame below the windows for any rust as long as it get it done yearly, which will certainly be happening. we get some crazy winters up here and they just loooooove the road salt and calcium spray.

Wow, that's some major rusting! This must be a used truck that's been sitting in salt water. Did you check the history of this truck? try using carfax to check the history of this truck. By looking at the pictures not only the frame is rusty, but there are other components that would had to take a lot of abuse to get that rusty. Good Luck!
