Why does my truck beep in 4 low??

I went up on some mountain roads this afternoon to give my 4wd a workout and had to engage 4 low a couple times. I started to hear a constant beep?? Is this normal? Also, seemed like the truck was in the same gear as 4 hi. You know, didn't seem like it was creeping along. Is something wrong with my 4 low?? Any help would be great.

 

If the truck is beeping, it is not in 4LO. You need to come to a complete stop, shift the truck into 4LO and sometimes move the steering wheel back and forth while you are creeping sloowly to have it engage. The alarm is letting you know that 4LO has not engaged properly.

Do what stupid? Think about what would happen if you engaged the low gear set at any sort of speed.

 

I'm sorry I meant I know Toyota wouldn't purposely make it beep constantly if it were engaged in 4 low. I'm the stupid on here! It works fine. Probably wouldn't engage because I was slightly moving.

Read the manual about 4LO again....

Manual truck- Clutch pedal to the FLOOR (not just holding the plates open) and the auto needs to be in neutral (I think??). Completely stopped and then the turning thing and a LITTLE bit of rolling motion can help.

I've never had problems with mine shifting in when I'm completely stopped with the clutch pedal to the floor.

 

ya you gotta either be at a dead stop or an extremely slow speed lol

Bolded section was answered before you ever posted a word....and the OP said "I did not think Toyota would do something that stupid" after it was- Indicating he was confused at first...and now had the answer...and realized that it was not Toyotas fault.
