Here's something interesting about the Toyota Prius. The owners manual mentions that it requires the battery pack to be recharged every two weeks otherwise it can cause the batteries to fail prematurely. Also, if you don't recharge it (drive for 30 minutes) at least once every two weeks, it may void your warranty.

10 years ago gas was cheap and we were still driving the old style dirty diesels that you could mod and get 28 mpg out of a full size or the old realiable mazda diesel 2wd mini trucks that got mid 40s Those have all but faded away or have 300k+ miles on them.

No offense but you were just getting your drivers license

look below...lol actually, thats on an 01, also I've never heard of consumeraffairs.com
look at the increase in the use of turbo's also with the new technologies making diesels a clean option, VW's TDI is a great example. I still bet there will be an option in the future for a diesel tacoma.....

:pout: Not me, gona take a diesel if I want to keep my mods and get mid 20s, I'm lucky to get 17 like most guys with a lift and tires. And towing...low teens. Now a diesel, towing..what low 20s damn that's terrible.

lets see if i can do simple math. lets round up for my dumb ass. currently 20mpg in my taco. you want to get around 30mpg. lets say your truck is 2 years old and has 50k miles on it with the average gas being (in my area) $2.75. 50k miles dev. by 20mpg=2500gal@$2.75=$6,875 in fuel for 2 years....vs.....50k miles dev. by 30mpg=1,666.66gal@$2.75=$4,583.33 in fuel for 2 years... so the cost savings on the hybrid would be $2,291 @ 50k miles. most people wouldnt drive 50k in 2 years so the math would be diff. so even if you cut that in half, $572.25 would be the saving in a year. in a round about way your car payment is $25 on every $1000. so if the trucks price increased by $5k, your payment would raise $125 per month x 12 months = $1500 increase in payments for a year. the cost of the hybrid would be far more expencive than the cost savings in fuel + the upkeep. i for one would not get it. i would however go for the diesel.

Toyota's HSD system cannot handle towing. This is the primary reason why you do not see a hybrid version of the Tacoma. Toyota wanted to make one, but the system kept running out of juice during towing tests. GM's two mode system has the capacity to run like a conventional vehicle when towing.

In my country we have almost Toyota Hilux are good trucks, economic 22 to 25mpg diesel, 3.2 160hp turbo common rail, hard truck ,but they are slow, the tacoma has a lot more power...and is much more stable, is a Truck...

wouldnt it be great if they developed a TDI like VW and audi? Ive been keeping trak with thos engines and they seem to be coming along pretty good. Matter of fact on my way up to citrus to do some wheeling we stopped at a gas station on 27 and there were about 12-15 VW and audi suv's with tdi garb all over them. I asked one of the guys what was up and he said, in his british accent, that they were doing some final testing on the vehicles before they go into production.

Don't tell that to Mahindra. I'm actually hoping that this forces the other automakers to bring their diesel small trucks to the states.

I don't see why the US hasn't caught on to diesels yet. I want a diesel truck so badly. A diesel Tacoma would be perfect.

    Looking!
I was looking in ebay, and found this Toyota pickup advertisement from 1981. That's great mileage.
