With all the green talk and mileage crap I wonder why Toyota hasn't developed a hybrid version of the Tacoma using a variation of the Prius synergy drive?

I myself can't wait until I can get either a Tacoma or a full size Toyota truck that runs Hybrid and gets close to 30 MPG combined. Just think, it would be the best of both worlds....

    Lots of space
    Utility
    Offroad capability
    etc....but good mileage.

Traditionally its always been a trade-off, but in 2009-10 I don't think it should be.

I'll be the 1st in line if they release a Hybrid.

Yes, but its a small sacrifice to pay for all that extra miles you get :D Plus, lets face it, if you bout a taco v6 you don't like the sound that much.

My Ram Hemi had way more throat to it than the Tacoma. I miss it, yeah, but would I go back if I could get the speed, power, and 25+MPG....in a heartbeat.

Why would it be any different? If it made the same power, etc...why not get the mileage out of it? It probably could be more powerfull as those electric motors have proven to be quite powerfull.

No difference really, it would just be an OCD thing that I wouldn't be able to get out of my mind. :D

When I got my lift I would honestly check every time I saw my truck to see if there was any sag in either the front or back and to see if they were level or not. I got problems.

Well, the problem with that is... hybrids have to look ugly, apparently the ugly helps them get better gas mileage.

Tacomas are not ugly, so it would never work!

The thing I don't understand is all this mileage talk. It's a truck! It's not that bad on gas anyways. If people are that concerned about mileage why even buy a truck? Toyota does have great cars that have great mileage. If I wanted a hybrid I'd buy a prius.

considering the US is using 25% of the worlds oil with only 4% of the population its just a matter of time before EVERYTHING goes hybrid or alternative fuels.like it or not.

There will be a taco hybrid in the future...it's only a matter of time...I'd get for sure...as long as the didn't try and rape you on the price...hybrids are way over priced.

i see the problem with power, it might run fine w/o a load but once u start towing/carrying stuff then...
the escalade has a hybrid model that only gets like 18mpg, dont see where the real benefit is

just need more offshore, usa inland drilling

A prius creates more pollution and waste in manufacturing than almost any other car. Batteries are never good for the environment. My sister's Corolla gets 40mpg highway, a Prius get what 45 mpg highway. I can't see a real benefit there for such a premium. And you have to buy an very ugly car that stereotypes you. A turbo diesel 4 cylinder 2.4 liter Tacoma would be what I'd want to see. Lots of torque and decent mpg (probably over 30) VW sells turbo diesel jettas that get better hwy mpg than Prius and are nicer to drive.

A hybrid taco would cost enough more that the added MPG would never make up the additional cost. If you want to save gas money, buy a Carolla. If you want to save the Earth, buy a Hybrid (or a BIKE!). If you want a truck, buy a truck.

    Hybrid Tacoma?

how about a Tacoma with the 4.6L V8. The Tundra gets comparable fuel economy to the Tacoma with that 4.6L engine (that and a 6 speed auto)

I'd be all for the diesel. Say a reg cab, a longer bed even 8 ft, and a 3.2l +/- diesel getting 28mpg. maybe 180 hp 260 torque.... modest power. Make a bigger one as an option for tacomas&Tundra.

Sorry, but a hybrid Taco is asinine. You got a V6? Buy the 4cyl - it'll save more for you than a hybrid without the added costs and weight of a battery and complicated electronics.

Best option would be a 4cyl diesel - I'd sell mine in a heartbeat if they came out with that!

that is exactly what we need! those hilix's got those engines, but look like poo. transplant one of those engines into our current body style trucks (with a functional hood scoop!) and we would be good to go!
