    I offered $25,300 before TT&L
He came back saying thier 'cost' for the vehicle is $26,354 and how much profit above that do I think is fair? Sheesh. The guy told me the Edmund's invoice figure of $24,350 is correct but the difference came from this "toyota marketing fee", floormats, DTRLs, and a tank of gas. Dealers think if you have boobs that must mean you're stupid. I certainly don't know it all - that's why I'm doing my homework here - but I'm not a moron. Thanks again for all the help, y'all.

I wish I could. They're one of only 2 dealerships in El Paso and the other has nothing close to what I'm looking for and is not getting any more '09s in. The 2010s will be there in 30 days, but no rebates and higher prices on those, not to mention cash for clunkers will have expired by then. Next closest dealership is out of state. Maybe I'll take a drive into NM this weekend.

Just give the dealer in NM a call and see if they have something similar for a better price.

I would just stick to my first offer, tell them when they want to sell the truck for that price to give you a call.

Take the price they gave you, go to another (or several) dealer and play them against each other.

I AM TELLING YOU, CALL HIS BLUFF AND TELL HIM YOU ARE GOING TO SUCH AND SUCH DEALER TO SEE IF THEY WILL BEAT HIS PRICE.....

I did this numerous times last January and yes I upset some people, but I admonished them before hand that I would not tolerate games, for themto give me their rock bottom price and that I would be going to other dealers to compare prices.

When I finally purchased my truck i still had the other dealers calling me. I told them about my purchase, with one dealer becoming very upset (he later called and apologized) and another saying he could have beat the price....My reply was that he should have beat it from the start, without playing games!!!!!!!

I did something similar when I bought mine. It certainly helps negations to have another salesman calling your cell phone and beating the other guy on every negotiating point (Price, Trade, Warranty).

Once the 2010's come in they'll be pushing harder to sell the 09's anyways. I'd low ball them even more. And the cash for clunkers is good till November I believe.

Hi crawlergirl, welcome to tacomaworld. I posted this response a few months ago to a similar question...

"I purchased a 09 dbl cab TRD off road @ Boch Toyota Attleboro on 4/30/09. sticker-$31,294.
negotiated price-$25,900 (including $1500 cash back).
Add in $300 documentation fee (non-negotiable) and $1310 (5% Mass sales tax)= $27,510 out the door. Invoice was +/- $28,500.

I researched on here and other sites monitoring prices. After finding the exact vehicle I wanted at a bunch of dealers, I fired off emails either making an offer or requesting their best quote for said vehicle.

Picked the lowest 2 and called the "internet dept" at each asking if that was the best they could do. Both said that was their lowest price. I said Ok, I'll be in touch. Boch called back saying if I was a serious buyer that they might be able to do "something" if I bought before month end.

Went down the last day of month, saved another $200 off the best price that I had received so far, and signed the paperwork.

The dealers are certainly hungry, but they are not "giving" away these bulletproof trucks. But I'm very happy with the price I paid."

Contact a few dealers online and save yourself from some of the aggravation of going into the showroom. Find the dealer online that has the truck YOU want and contact them.

Like Buzoff said above...let them know that you are in touch with other dealers. They'll get a bit more competitive a bit more quickly. The hungry ones will will step up and the lazy, complacent, non-competitve dealers won't.
Be patient and you'll get the truck you want at the price you want.
    Good luck

^ also you can ask to speak to the fleet sales manager. They will give you the absolutely lowest price just because they don't get anything out of it. I heard on a few sites that its the best way to go. Also go to the toyota website and build out a tacoma and get quotes from a bunch of local dealers and just go back n' forth saying "this one will give me a taco for $xx,xxx" back n' forth. Best part about that is you dont have to leave your house and waste your time going between dealers to bargain.

09 DC LB TRD Sport, 6 CD in-dash, Tow Package - $25,551 after TTL and stupid doc fee. It's not a 4x4 like the one you're looking at but it's not base either so that should balance out a bit. Sticker was $28,091. Carsdirect.com and my bank (USAA) provided a good reference for me to aim at but I got a lower price than either of them quoted directly. Essentially I think I got the price those services would have paid the dealer and didn't have to pay the middle-man fees.

I tried for over a week to get it lower through multiple dealers and had a couple tell me that they appreciated my interest but for any lower price they'd rather just keep it. Managed to get all the junk fees (mats, stocking, some kind of shop fee, etc) eliminated except the doc fee and I wheedled on that for two days straight with no luck.

Definitely work through the various dealers "Internet" departments and be sure to tell them (nicely) you're consulting with other dealers to get the lowest price possible.

    Here's a trick.

Ya know the "worksheet" where they fill out all the numbers but won't give you a copy to show the competition?

Whip out your digital camera (or cellphone) and take a picture of the sucker. :p

I always shop hard and the sales people say that's actually rare. Their bread and butter are impulse buyers.
