The Scion Antenna Mod!

Heres a little about my scion antenna on my truck:

-Why would I want it???
Because you're lifted and you hate it when your antenna hits the carport or garage roof pulling in.
-Why not one from VatoZone?
The Scion antenna is stylish and hip!

I thought you'd never ask!



Scion tC antennas can be ordered on eBay for ~10 bucks. Go get one. Meanwhile, keep this in mind. The stud size for the antenna is the right diameter, but the length is not adequate.

Heres what to do:

Find some M5/.80 thread stock, OR you can use a bolt of the same size, cut off the head and clean the threads. You'll want about an inch and a half of thread showing so it can be mounted. Compare it to your stock antenna because I haven't actually measured.

Find a M5/.80 coupler nut (these will be hard to find, I've seen a few online)

Find a spacer to cover the extra thread length that will more than likely be exposed once you couple the threads together. I used a rubber cork, the size was perfect, but after awhile the rubber will deteriorate and crack, so I'm recommending something else at this point in time.


Couple the pieces together, throw some loctite on the threads and epoxy them together so that they may never part. Be generous with it for that extra assurance, because it will get covered up by the spacer.

Let the expoxy/glue you're using set up according to its directions, throw your spacer and thread it in. I kept my spacer a little large so that when I tighten down, the pressure of the rubber kinda locks it in place.

If all goes well, it should fit perfect!









Now for a little truth about my install that I don't recommend but seems to be working. I couldn't find a coupler nut. I used a standard size nut to couple mine together. This only allowed about 1 thread from each piece to go inside the nut and lock together. Its not the greatest hold. I used thin modelers CA (super glue) to penetrate the threads and lock them into place. I then used thick epoxy-like CA to completely cover the nut and threads VERY GENEROUSLY. The thick modelers CA is VERY strong and will actually provide support in holding everything together. So far mine has been on for 3 months with no issues. The Scion antenna actually flexes alot, so theres really not alot of pressure at higher speeds working on the antenna.

Take it for what its worth, most people have been disecting antennas on here without regard for reception. My scion antenna mod seems to be the same reception, maybe even a bit BETTER reception. To me it makes no sense, but I'm picking up more radio stations. Good luck!

I have been using a shorty antenna (20 inches) that did not flex. I was tired of taking it off for car washes and I wanted something that would flex but still not hit my garage.

So, I put the stock antenna back on and cut about 4 inches off of it. It still works just as good as before. After repainting it it looks great, just no ball on the end.

Be careful to anyone doing that. You can cut into the antenna wire and lose all reception.

i used the S2000 antenna and worked fine and is only bout 8 to 10 inches long
