Oil Weight

The manual for the 08 V-6 calls for 5-30 wt motor oil. I took it to the wash/ lube shop yesterday & just noticed they used 5-20wt.

Any big deal???

Being in AZ,I would want the 5w-30,but at least its not summer.I remember once it got to 122 deg. record for that day.Probably wont hurt it but if you had time, see if they`ll change it.

wash/lube

remember in these places were they change oils not always they have all types of oil for all cars , remember it's a matter of savings for them , i worked at a fast lube center and they always said t me, do not tell everything you know , and what they mean is that they won't have al types of oil weights because it cost money and the idea of a buisness is to lower cost. so next time it is better that you buy the oil and let them put it in your truck , remember to ask for the empty bottles . i have seen it and done it

If your manual says you need 5w30, put 5w30 in your truck. The 5w20 oil has the same properties when it is cold (w stands for winter) than the 5w30. The second number is extremely important because it is the degree of viscosity the oil has when it runs at hotter temperatures. The 30 means that the oil is thicker than the 20 when your engine reaches its normal working temperature.
The oil that your engine needs is choosed because of the clearances of the internal parts in your engines. 5w20 oil is used in engines that has tighter clearances between crankshaft bearings and the crankshaft itself. Remember something, your oil pressure in the upper part of your engine is mainly determined by these clearances so stick to what your manual says.
I do not want to get into too much technical stuff but that's about it.

This is worth quoting. I have short of 9600 on it. Oil was changed at 5000 and 7200. I`m going to change it with synthetic at about 10000. Gear goxes as well.
The manual does say 5w30.
My dealer has that in Mobil1. Amsoil may be better. But it is not readily available.
And I ordered a TRD super charger. So that may make more frequent changes necessary. The engine sits a lot. I have nowhere to go.
Thus I have the dreaded dry start. As I can find no pre oiler as my airplane has. The sooner it gets to the valve guides the better.
When I do go, It requires an airplane.

synthetic will cure dry starts....and yet again, you have lost some of us.....guaranteed. if you barely drive your truck , why do want a supercharger........is it just for fun or what??alot of $$$$ burning a hole in your pocket??


ok,ok........back on topic!!! go with synthetic.........your engine will thank you later!!

as for rpoint16..........5w20 is ok......you may get a little better mileage, but next oil change, go back with 5w30.

Trd Sc

I just decided to treat myself. I have the money.
I paid cash for the taco.
I have a PA 28 Cherokee 235, a`62 GMC House car, a `74 power wagon, a `92 BMW R100R, a Suzi dirt bike, an Oliver Mod B Tractor and other vehicles.
I saved enough money to make money with.
Now in the twilight of my years it is time to spend some on comforts.
I kill most of what I eat. The VA handles med. and dental. I have some combat wounds which are annoying. I have an 06 over 20 pension. My only expense is milk and beer.
My friends are in debt and they will never have a stock portfolio. But they live well and drive vehicles with AC.
Why not me? I like my old stuff and have 200 acres to keep it on, just here,
All of my properties are paid for.
My clothes are old as are most of my weapons and hunting and fishing gear.
I am wearing a Kendo top from 1966 and patched jeans from HS.
But they are top of the line and built to last. Heck, they have antique value now.
No wife.
It just depends on what matters to you. I bolted a pistol safe for one of my custom 1911`s first. That one pistol cost more than the SC. Then I got a console safe. Which will also fit a 1911.
So. why not?

but i say, hell, if you got the money, then have at it. tell us how it turns out(power, performance).....and maybe a video would be nice. but you gotta romp the hell outta it on the video!!

To respond to Tacomaman06, synthetic will not cure dry starts it is the first time i hear that.
It depends how many days does your truck stays in your driveway. If you don't drive it for weeks then what you should do is get some oil pressure in your head before starting the engine.
The only way to do that is to unplug your coilpacks or whatever kind of system you have so that it doesn't make any spark, floor the gas pedal (so that no fuel is injected while cranking) and crank the engine until your oil pressure light comes off. Then, plug your coilpacks and start the engine.
This way, you are sure that you have oil pressure everywhere.
That's pretty much it. Enjoy your supercharger! Gotta love the whine of a sc!!

to respond to colttsi................i was basically saying that synthetic is better for dry starts then dino oil is, as it stays lubricated longer( and im going off a notion that most people drive their trucks more than just every couple of weeks). reread danusa's post and you'll see where im coming from when i said" synthetic cures dry starts"!!!

I have juce, an aux. Can I put the pedal to the metal and crank it no more than 30" until I see oil pressure. Oh, I do not have a gauge. What would the pressure be when the oil light goes off?
Full throtle does not provide fuel?
It can sit a couple of mos.

Trd Sc

How can I re learn a camera when I`m thinking about a sc?
It`s 15 and icy so it won`t be today.
I`m not spending this so that some idiot can run into me.
This usually tapers off as the incompentents are weeded out.
I have never seen the TA`s keep up this long.
