How about this? (opinions needed)

I'd love to get the toytec Ultimate lift kit. But lets face it I don't have the $$.

But I would like to get a lift that will allow me to build on it a little at a time. Please keep in mind, I rarely go off road but I drive a LOT of miles every month on back country roads (job related). So not killing my tires because of alignment issues is important.

I think I would like to get the Toytec OME3-05-AL Lift:

This looks like I could add Billies later if needed. I'm really not the type of person who's going to adjust my ride lower so going with adjustable coil overs seems like a waste for me.


NEXT: I plan on getting some LR UCA's from Toytec as well to put on to make sure the alignment is good. If anyone has any they aren't using or aren't going to use PM I may be interested in buying them from you if the price is right.


NEXT: Wheels, I plan on sticking with my stock wheels for a while. So I was thinking of getting some Spidertrax wheel spacers. Hopefully that will eliminate any rubbing that might occur from a larger tire. Again, if anyone has some they don't need PM me.

Finally: I'm planning on going with some BFG's. I can't decide on the size. Heck, it took a bit to decide to make the BFG investment. But for the size I really would like to get 285/75/16's M/T's. But a smarter move with my high mileage driving might be to get the smaller 265's or if they make it a 275 and sticking with the A/T's.
Does anyone know the difference in mileage ratings on the M/T's verses the A/T's?

Ok there's what I'm thinking of doing. Let's hear your thoughts. Should I save and just get a spacer kit since I really don't do any "off roading" or consider a different kit all together? Is there a better way to make the lift able to be added on to?

What's your thoughts?

Its a good lift, but the ride will suffer as the stock shocks arnt up to the task of dampening the OME springs. Save a bit more for the OME n140s shocks.

Oh, I forgot to ask something important. Am I forgetting anything? Do I need a sway bar relocater? Or how about rear axle shims? What about a front Diff drop, do I need one of those also? Or are these things I could add down the road to make my suspension better?

You only need the diff drop, or rear shims if vibes show up.

Hey Chris!
Thanks for the advise. I read something on the Toytec site that sounds like something similar. It said "Optional med and heavy coils can be selected but require OME N140S shocks sold seperately"
I took that to mean, that the kit comes with a softer (less lbs) spring which would be ok with the stock shocks. Help me understand what you're meaning and what they are saying.

Being as you have a double cab, Im guessing your gonna get the OME 885 springs....they have a 590# spring rate. The stock shocks have a 540# rate, and are progressive. The shocks are marginal OEM shocks at best.

I think I see what you're saying. Because I have the heavier DC I should get the 885 springs which means I need to replace my shocks as well.

I'm looking to keep the ride firmness similar to stock which is why I thought I'd stick with the 884's that come with the kit. Are the 884 springs just too light for the DC's?

The 884's are a 590# rate also. They are just 10mm shorter than the 885's. I think they tell you they can be used with the stock shocks to make the kit less expensive. Technically, they "can" be used, but the ride will suffer. Also, keep in mind, and lift is going to make the ride a little more firm. You cant increase spring rate, and have it ride like a lesser rate.

Not to contradict Chris, but I have a base model truck with the TRD shocks all around (TSB related) and a Toytec lift. I really don't feel much difference in ride, Realistically I mean. Nothing negative.

But you say you drive on back country roads, not sure how rough the terrain is, you may want the better quality ride. I haven't ridden in a truck with the ultimate lift yet so I don't have a comparison. Just my $.02

Oh and to comment on your 884s. When I purchased my kit from Toytec they sent me the 884s because at the time Toytec didn't reccomend the 885s, until a few people brought to light the fact that witht he 884s our double cabs are level at first but then as the springs settle they develope a rake. Mine has it slightly.

Input is welcomed, Lucas. I was just giving info based on most experiances. Seems most people that install these springs and keep the Stock TRD shocks are not happy with the ride.

Gotcha. Is this something that I could live with a rough ride for a while and replace the stock shocks with some Billies later on? Or will the new springs trash the stock shocks in a hurry?

It all depends. luk8272 is happy with his ride, but others are not. I cant tell ya what "You" would like in a ride. Only "You" are going to know that.

I was more questioning if the 884's or 885's will break something on the truck if I run them for like a 6 months to a year?


Hey Luke! Thanks for the input and thanks for the info about the rake developing after a while with the 884's on a DC. I have an 06 and I don't think its a TRD (no stickers) I think its just a 06 4x4 V6 with a tow pkg. So I wonder if it would even be able to run a 884 with its current shocks.


One last question then you guys can respond, what is TSB?

I don't think the TRD shocks are any longer, I was just letting you know exactly what setup I had. I also didn't notice a difference in my ride from base model springs to the TRD.
Like chris said only "you" will be able to decide what you like. I know its a hard decision thats why I offered my input. At the time I purchased my lift they didn't offer the Ultimate kit. I would have gone that route, undoubtedly. So if you can wait alittle longer and save the cash why not. But if you want it now I think you would be happy with a setup similar to mine with the exception of the rear block, again Toytec didn't offer an AAL for trucks with the TSB done, at that time.

Oh and to clarify my TSB was the rear springs, they were under powered and would bottom out, to solve this toyota offered a a new set of Leafs and 4 trd shocks to Base model trucks.

I don't know if you can really call it advice because I have not lifted my truck yet, but I think that you should hold out a while and get the complete kit that you want that is matched up to itself. That way you don't have any complaints about taking "longcuts". You pretty much already know that you're not going to be completely happy with the ride or wearing out shock, etc. As much as I'm in a hurry to lift my truck I'm still waiting until I can get exactly what I want because this is my daily driver and I need to do it right the first time.

I have that lift kit and the ride up front was a little stiff but nothing terrible to deal with. Since then I have replaced the shocks with 5100's up front and 5150's in the back. Feels like magic but to me it has been a great lift and served its purpose.
