Advise on a purchase price.

I'm looking at a 2009 Tacoma, Access cab, SR5, 4 cyl, 4X4, manual trans with 3,000 mi. Its timberland green, one owner, clean carfax and the price is $22,350.00 + TT&L.

Is it 4x2 or 4x4? Was it a demo, or why is it selling at such low mileage?

Prices may be higher in Washington, but I bought a brand new 09 Access Cab Prerunner (4x2), SR5, 6 cyl, Automatic, with DV stereo, bed mat, floor mats, and sill protectors, for about $700 more than that price, plus TT&L.

 

Don't forget that new Access Cabs have a $1000 cash back rebate right now to. You may be able to work a brand new one down to that if not lower after the rebate.

 

Yea with 3k on the ODO something smells a little fishy. I'd fight for a lower tag, and insist on a carfax to see if it's already had one owner. If it has, get a used price, cause that's what it is.

You're just not getting much of a discount off of the price you would pay for a new one. When I was pricing out, I was deciding between V6 and 4x4, because I didn't really want to spend enough to get both. As I recall, the prices were pretty close between a 4x2 V6 and a 4x4 4cyl.

I'd really, really want to know the story behind why it was being sold after so little time and mileage. If the owner lost his job, that's one thing, but if there isn't a good explanation, I'd start to wonder why, exactly, they were getting rid of it?

If I were interested in it, I would spec out the new truck price, figure out the "real" sale price on that truck (use Edmunds or similar site to compute that), subtract about 10% for it not being new, subtract another 10% for the portion of the factory warranty that has been used. That's about where I'd be comfortable paying for a used truck.

 

New one probably would be best for you. Don't let price tag discourage you, negotiate your price,it's not etched in stone. If they don't want your business there're other dealers. Shop around.

 

Ok, sounds like I better do a little more home work on a new 09, or possibly wait for the 2010's to hit the lots. The dealers here around Spokane WA etc ask top dollar for anything and everything. I'm not going to waste my breath starting to haggle with thier asking prices. I've done nationwide searches before and bought 2 cars from out of state, and will again if need be.

I've searched on cars.com and have found the best deals back east, and in texas etc. Why such a difference? The lots around here are getting real slim, not many trucks left, several tundras etc. The clunker program has the dealers calling the shots in my area anyway.

Texas and Oklahoma seem to have good prices. Take a vacation, go see the Alamo, and drive back in a new truck.

 

I just bought my 2005 Tacoma DC SB 4x4 V6 two days ago and it was up against a 2009 Tacoma Access LB 4x4 4 cylinder with 11,000 miles on it. The place where I went gets cars from the Toyota and Honda dealerships that were either lease returns, or in the case of the above 2009 truck, the first owner was 6 foot 4 inches and truck was just too small for him.

They wanted $24,000 for the 2005 DC with 49,000 miles (V6, six speed, fairly loaded), or $23,000 for the 2009 Access. Then the guy said he'd take $23,000 for either one. I asked if the 2009 could come down and he said he couldn't come down on it (he was the owner of the lot). I drove both of them and liked the feel of the DC over the Access, but was torn because I really wanted to get better gas mileage, coming off of a 1991 Extra Cab 4x4 3.0L V6.

I ended up getting the 2005 DC because of vain, selfish reasons. The DC was Barcelona Red, the Access was silver. The DC had better lines, in my opinion, and I hate to admit it but in the balance between aesthetics and function, I always lean towards aesthetics. I gave up the long bed and better gas mileage for a short bed, not as good gas mileage, but a real back seat, roof rack, AC power point in bed, six speed, locking rear differential, tinted rear windows, tow package, and did I mention she was a looker on the lot? It was only later on my way home that I tapped into the power and was mightily pleased. Then I get home and find out on the net that you can put a supercharger on the 4.0 liter...

I don't regret my decision. I took my '91 (with 237,000 miles on it) up to the Toyota dealership to do the Cash for Clunker and even when I get $3500 dollars for my truck, I would still be paying around $30,000 for the same truck that I ended up with but I ended up paying about $25,000, when it was all said and done. I sold the '91 to the dealer for $200 dollars (cracked block, bad wheel bearings...on its way out).

yeah i would go new that's what i paid for my 08 base access cab 4cyl 5spd 4x4.and as time goes by i hear that people that bought my truck got it for 20,000.so i would say you can get that truck new for under 24,000

Toyota 4x4's are in high demand in the area where I live, mountainous with lots of dirt roads. The cars that survive the roads around here are Toyotas and Subarus. That's why it may seem like I paid a lot for my DC.

The 2009 DC at the Toyota dealership was listed at over $32,000...although this one had JBL's and scooped hood. Then you add tax, license fees, registration, it would probably be up around 34-35,000. There were only three Tacomas that I could see on the lot. Slim pickens...

 

I understand list price-that is usually MSRP, but most people haggle to bring a price down. Plus TTL fees apply to all purchases. The MSRP on mine was way more than I paid. How about internet pricing or using Edmunds.com to find out what the average selling price is in the area. What's your zip code?

I should take mine to your area and sell it-sounds like I'd turn a profit...
