Turn Signal Question......

What does it mean when the left turn signal indicator is lit solid with running lights or headlights on. All my signals work, brake lights etc.... No fast flashing. My right front/rear running lights do not come on but the bulbs appear to be ok. I would think that the left side would be a problem as the light is on solid. In better light tomorrow I will buy a few bulbs and check them all by trial/error but I have never seen this. Usually you get the fast blink etc.... Its a 2007 2WD Access cab, I4. I did notice with my 4 way flashers, all bulbs flash but the left front/rear dim when activated. Strangeness, probably a dead bulb I can't see with the naked eye. Will post results tomorrow.

Post of pic of what it looks like? Trying to picture it in my head, and think I have it.... But not sure...

Did you buy used? Sounds like a short or jump somewhere... Do you have the driving lights turned on via the stick on the steering wheel?

My lights look like this, but I modded it do that. And the rear running/marker/tail lights come on as I turn the stalk to driving lights.

do you have a hitch installed?
why i ask is in the hidden hitch and others there is more going on than just wiring in that harness ;-D

A few things can do this, one that can be hard to locate if you have never run into it is sometimes one of the filaments in a dual filament bulb can sag to the point it is touching the other filament and cause some strange problems.

Turn Signal...

Yes I do have a hitch. It has only been installed since June 07, right after I bought the truck. I didn't like the wiring hanging down so back in October I tie wrapped it up with a plastic bag over the connector, we get tons of snow and salt. It just started happening a few days ago after a long trip. I didn't get a chance to look at it today. Monday I'm going to buy 1 of each of the three types of bulbs and just do the Christmas light swap out and hope it works. If not I will take a closer look at the harness. There is a "black box" under there for the harness, maybe crapping out......

sounds like it, do a thorough wire check and I bet you solve the problem. Good luck, send pix so we can all learn.

if you have like the hidden hitch setup for wiring and a black box
for checking the wiring, just unplug the 'T" from each tail light housing and plug the tail light into the trucks wiring harness again !
(that will make it 100% stock again)

and if still trouble try the light bulb swap and don't forget the front lights can do it too!

Light Swap.......

The light swap did not work. I swapped out all the bulbs front and back with good bulb, I doubt two bulbs would be out at once. I checked all the filaments and they are all good. The hitch wiring harness is wired to my system ans taped up good so I didn't want to fool with it. Its under warranty from the place that did the install so I have an appt. on the 7th to have it checked. I'll keep you all posted......

if you want, you can move to houston, dallas, san antonio, and FOR SURE austin...... in these cities you do not need turn signals!!!!!!!!

sorry guys, SOAP BOX TIME!!!!!! if your a cop, no offense, but here is my opinion....

WHY OH' WHY do cops give SOOOOOO man tickets to people driving 15 mph over the speed limit, but NOT the people constinatly changing lanes with no turn signal!!?!?!?!?!!??!! i ask you all, what is more dangerous??? driving 80 on the freeway where the speed limit is 65, where there are NO turns or hills as far as the eye can see, OR going from one lane to the next, sometimes crossing 4 lanes in a few hundred feet with no turn signal???

ok, im done...... maybe

Talking

whats a turn signal? vehicles in my area dont have such things..welcome to New York, pay toll ahead....seriously, pull the front bulb out and then check rear and vice versa..also, you brought up a very good point about newer cars. because we use low side drivers to turn stuff on and such its a good idea to use OE bulbs to ensure proper resistence which we all know computers are sensitive to...ever have a toyota bulb minder dash light tell you a brake lights out when its not? put the correct bulb in and wala..dash warning goes out...(just a thought) e-mail me, have a friend at a yoda dealer and can obtain factory wiring schematics....SHHHHH dont tell anyone...

I don't know either... And I got pulled over once for lane changing without using my signal... I did, but they aren't very bright on the car. First time I'd ever seen it happen! I NEVER see anyone else get pulled over even though they never use a turn signal. f'n cops!

Nah... it happens down here too. Any of you seen "Shoot 'Em Up" yet? OMFG!!! The guy goes on a rant about how people are to f'n lazy to move their fingers 2" to hit the indicator handle, and then runs some jackass in a BMW off the road for doing that.

Thanks.....

For all your help. I have dl'd the 05-06 manuals you guys listed the link for and hope it is the same for the 07. But I have a strange new development.....the 07 Tacoma's have built in self healing diagnostics. Last night the lights magically started to work again and all is well. Now I am really stumped, If all goes well until this Friday I may cancel my shop appt. and just mention it to the dealer on my 10k service in a month or so. My truck is ALIVE!!!!!!!! It probably got so cold the water shorting out my wiring must have froze! Seriously, up here near Buffalo, NY we can just rip out the turn signals, with all the snow who can see them anyway, and yes if anyone watched the Buffalo Sabres Ice bowl last night you know why we hang or heads in shame.....lol
