2010 4.0 power

does anyone know if theyre increasing the power of the 4.0 for 2010? i remember a thread a few months ago saying they were going to increase it for the FJ and 4runner i think, just wanted to know if they were going to do it for the tacoma as well

 

They are on the FJ but not on the tacoma there only going to enlarge the cupholders on the taco what an upgrade haha

 

I haven't heard much about the motor power increases in the Tacoma, but I have heard of them in the FJ's and 4runners.

I would think since it is the same engines that they it would be the same. I can't see them making 2 different engines. Keep in mind that as of now they rate the FJ and Tacoma engines with different power ratings. One with premium fuel (the FJ) and one on regular(Tacoma). Maybe the same thing for 2010

 

One of the threads on here has a pic of the new cup holders. They are not larger. There is an insert that goes where the adjustable thing is now... it just holds two cups.

 

While we are on the subject of engines, the salesperson who sold me my truck said that my engine was made by Yamaha corp. in Japan. Do any of you guys know if this is true?

The engines are not the same... well, basically they are but they already have different outputs, so they are different. I'm not sure exactly what the differences are, but I would say we'll soon (couple years) see a boost to the Tacoma's output to keep up with other midsize trucks.

 

I read somewhere that the 2005 4.0 engine was rated at 245 hp and 282 lb-ft torque. Since the 87/91 octane discrepancy only accounts for three horsepower (236 to 239), I am curious what made the 2005 engine different.

 

I think maybe it's something related to double VVT-I that make the difference. Check the tundra. They now have a 4.6L V8 with that in place of the old 4.7L!

 

I work for a nissan dealership, and we stole a parts man from toyota. He stated the reason why the fj and the 4 runner are getting an increase in the motor size is bec the 4 runner and the fj are made in japan while the tacoma is made in the usa. For some reason the Japaneses gets better technology before us.. For those who have a fj, look at the first letter or number of the vin. If it says 1 means made in usa, if it says j means made in japan. same for the 4 runner

 

Right the reason for the increase of hp has to do with the vvti or something like that.l a new rocker arm and vvti or something new is supposed to increase the hp while the tacoma will not be getting the same upgrade that the fj and 4 runner gets.

 

Hey, maybe by the time Tacoma gets the upgraded engine, plus a couple of years, I will be wanting to buy a V6 4x4 quad cab. Say, about eight years from now. If they revamp the Tacoma in 2012-2014, and I decide to buy a new one when my current one is nine years old...yeah, that would work.

 

^Same with me. This will be the first new vehicle out of the last 3 that I'll be keeping for the long haul. The last two made it no more than 3 years.
