2006 Tacoma 4x4 question

Ive been looking to get into one of these for a good amount of time and I think i may have found one.

Its a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 Double cab with a V6, it has 28K in miles and is extremely clean in and out. So far I have talked them into 23,500 for the truck and im going to put down 4000 in cash.

My questions is this a good deal? The sales person said that they have 22,750 invested into it and can not go any lower on the price. Im really thinking they can do 23,000 for it.

any suggestions will be much appreciated. also is there anything I should look for while looking over the vehicle?

thanks
Chris

I paid 27k for my 06 4x4 DC SB 6spd brand new, no miles. But then it has the rear locker, 6disc, sport seats w/lumbar support, keyless entry, fog lights.... I don't know what all the truck you're looking at comes with.

Looks good so far... I would definitely talk them down lower than the posted $25,900 price.... I mean, hell you could get a new 07 or 08 for damn near the same price. I mean, mine was around $1,100 more and you have to figure around $800 of that was just the locker according to toyotas build-your-own site when I played around before buying.

So at that price you're only saving maybe $200 for a vehicle someone else broke in and could've damaged any number of small things. Maybe things that don't keep the truck from functioning properly, but little irritating things. Broken cup holders, scratches, ripped upholstery... Just little things you wouldn't have to deal with buying new if you know what I mean. I've had 2 used cars before my truck, and I know what you run into after getting one.

Keep shopping, you put 4000 on a new one, interest rates are pretty low, it's a buyers market, winning is knowing when to flinch last.

Check KBB.com and enter in the options that it has on it. If they gave the previous owner the Kelly Blue Book Trade-In value (which is usually much higher than what they actually give you), you have to wonder what they had to do to the truck to spend $22,750. I'm assuming that the money they spent is not the retail price of fixing it up, but their cost. The blue book trade-in value for a 2006 truck with options like mine in excellent condition would only fetch $20,875.

Another way to get an extra $500 is to ask them to throw in some options in place of money. Their cost is usually much less than the cost to you so what may cost you $500 may only cost them $250. They'll usually be more willing to compromise.

I had a low-ball trade-in that I managed to talk up to double what they offered, but still 2/3 of what I expected based on KBB. I had them throw in a Lo-Jack wih remote notification (if the truck moves without the keyfob, I get notified by Lo-Jack) which gave me close to the equivalent of what I wanted for a trade.

Take your 4000.00 and put it down on a new one. That way you get what options you want and no one else has drove the piss out of it. JMO, but I like the warranty too. You will save money in the long run.

Exclamation used............

I personaly have never had a good used buying experience yet I also have never had a good new one either...I say to you this. If you realy like the whip buy it. If there is any reason other than price dont buy it. When all said and done and its in the garage (yours) you need to feel good about your purchase. I beat the crap out of salespeople..It's a #%$#ing game to them. They will tell you there is no room to lower or that we own it for this or BLAH BLAH BLAH...Trust me on this friend, they own it for less than they tell you and if that salesperson is light that day, week, month whatever it will happen and you will win. The real question is how long can you wait for them..

I agreed completely! Although, it's hard to argue with the 7yr/100,000 mile warranty toyota offers on used vehicles if you can get that. I mean, shit that's almost twice the original warranty! How the hell do that manage that? A vehicle suddenly lasts twice as long after having 1 owner?

If you can see the extras, such as a TRD cat back exhaust, and want them, it is worth 23,500. But they can, and will, do 23,000, It is taking up space. It is still a lot of miles that you know nothing of
I bought an `06 acess cab with 7,200. I paid 25,000 cash with the roo guard. I should have paid the dealer to break it in for me. He did a complete early service. I still have two vehicles in break in. He had a Topper , a 6 CD player and a lot of fluff. The compass came in handy. The diff lock is good. The red and blues, he installed at N/C. The gun racks should not take much, if I don`t drop the headliner to run wire to the release buttons.
The SC should cost 3,700. I put on a snow plow for 950. A spare pistol safe bolted to the floor and a console safe, which will fit a 1911 with leather and an M9 without. As for the front shotgun rack, I can get that with a roll bar bolted to the frame for about the same price.
I am looking at 30,000 for a 25,000 truck.
