I have always done my own oil changes, but now with a new truck... does it void your warranty if you do your own oil and your engine shitz the bed? Seems like they would take any out they have when it comes to claiming stuff on warranty.

That said, I'd probably do it myself anyway.

Second comment would be that I used synthetic 5w20 on my last truck at the recommendation of my toyota dealership's mechanic. I may just use synthetic 5w30 on my new one as per the specs. Thoughts??

He's in Canada... they are not protected by Magnusson Moss and there may be issues.

They have to stick to the schedule. They blew you off and you let them get away with it. I would make them look up the schedule and show me where it says 7500... That's right it doesn't.

    No surprise.

Before Toyota redesigned the dash displays to include the oil life 5000-mile countdown timer, my '03 Tundra called for 7500 normal or 5000 severe.
That was with conventional. It's no surprise they are going back to 7500, assuming the FRS is getting synthetic.

At this point the dealership does. I get em free for two years so might as well let them. After time expires I will be doin them though.

Use a paint pen to put an identifying mark discreetly on your oil filter to be sure they are doing the job.
Had more than a few members do this and discover they were not getting the service they were paying for.

Not just the dealership... goes for any time the oil is being changed by someone other than yourself.

Dealership simply because it is paid for by Toyota for the first 2 years.

I have owned a lot of off road vehicles and cars, and my dad has owned even more. Out of Rovers (60's-2000's), Jeeps, BMW, Acura, Dodge, and Ford, the Tacoma by far has the best designed set-up for ease of use on oil change. Really smart and well thought-out. I will be doing all of my oil changes myself.
