Spark plug locations for V6

Anybody done a tune up on their V6 taco? Are the spark plug locations such that they are a PITA to replace?

 

some say the driver side is a pita....but i dont really think it will be that bad. im changing mine in around 3k miles(when i hit 30k). the plugs in our tacos are coil -over plugs....meaning you need to remove the coil pack on top of each plug then take the plug out. i think there may be a bracket or something in the way on the driver side that needs to be moved outta the way, and from what i remember, the pass side is clear. should be easy enough. when you do change your plugs.....go with the denso iridiums, then you aint gotta change them for 100k miles.

i know what ya mean man............the damned 4 bangers have iridiums from the factory....and us with the v6 get stuck with copper core!!

 

Here one of my posts from TN. This should help...

Went with the standard Densos (got for 2.50ea from dealer), measured, were already gapped right. Added anti-seize to threads, tq'd 13ft/lbs. Getting at the back driver plug was a little tight, otherwise pretty straightforward way to save a hundred bucks. Passenger side took 20 min, about 50 min on drivers side. Should only take half the time in the future.

Found a long swivlehead 5/8 sparkplug extention really helped. My standard one kept disconnecting.

For middle and back driver side plugs
- disconnected that little connector in the way
- removed the top bolt from the bracket, only loosened the lower one to swing outta the way as needed
- disconnected the little hose that blocked the back drivers plug
- turn any sharp clamps on hoses away from the where you're working. Will help prevent cutting up your hands

Reconnected all the above and battery, runs like top.

 

Any one find a manual for the 06 V6 for less than Toyota's $175?

 

No but you can download for free it from some website. Do a search over here for tacoma manual and the website should come up.

We had the Service Manual downloads on ToyotaNation.com, but Toyota made us take them down.

Removing the spark plugs is pretty easy. It just takes a few different socket extensions. I used a "wobble extension" in a few tight areas. There's a bracket on the drivers side that you need to remove. It's a verticle bracket that holds up part of the intake. That's about it.

 

ive been meaning to ask you,pb.......how do you like the iridium sparkplugs you installed?? any noticeable gains??(i havent checked on tn to see if you made a thread about them at the time)

 

Yeah, is there any real benefit to the iridiums or is it just hype?
