Mine shakes around 45-55mph as well. I have not yet had the tires balanced but I know I need an alignment soon anyways.

Interesting, I just had the TSB done on my 08 double cab 4x4. They replaced the 4 shocks and the rear leaf spring packs, and said they had it aligned. On the work order the mechanic noted that after completing the work he took it for a test drive and he felt a vibration at 60mph, so he rotated and balanced all 4 tires. I know it did not vibrate before the TSB, and it dosen't vibrate after the TSB, but something certainly changed in there. Could aligning a vehicle put lateral pressure on the wheels warping them slightly throwing them out of balance? I'm gussing here...

Did they give you the printout on the alignment? Other TW posts have mentioned they usually give you a copy of the printout off the machine. You sounded uncertain of the alignment actually being done. Ask for a copy, for your vehicle records.

I've had the alignment checked & rechecked, the tires balanced 5 times, the rotors and drivelines measured for spec (all good), and it still does it. Getting worse. I've got 7K miles on it and want to get rid of it, but anyone test driving it would notice the shimmy. The dealer says it's the tires (despite the vibration being there with the original wheels AND the new ones). Schwab says it's the truck, which I believe it is. Am going to pursue it one more step with the dealer, then take it down the Lemon Law path (not excited about that). For a brand new $30K truck, this f*&cked up.
why would you buy the one that had a shimmy in the test drive???

I have the shakes as mentioned in this thread... I just had an alignment done - so I'd imagine it is a tire balancing issue... Looks like I'm gonna have to get mine in for a balance soon....

I had it with the rugged trail tires pre tsb. I got the leaf tsb done and replaced the rugged trails with revo's and it is still there every once in awhile, but not as often. I don't think it is either the leaf tsb nor the tires. I don't have a lift.

Exclamation

this is the vibration at 60mph only, it has absolutely nothing to do with the tires. it happens under slight acceleration in drive right about 60mph when the torque converter locks up for fuel economy. as soon as you take your foot off the gas it stops just like an on/off switch.
in time it will damage your driveline. they're secretly working on a fix according to other posts but if your not on record before your warranty expires you are screwed

the longer they wait to come clean the more warranties will expire saving they thousands of dollars!

I call bullsh!t! That doesn't make any sense for us that have a MANUAL 6spd or 5 spd we dont have a "torque converter that locks up for fuel economy"

Road force balancing

Update on my shimmy - My Tacoma has had four different sets of tires/wheels (original steel/Dunlops; OEM alloy w/Les Schwab Toyo Open Country; Nissan alloys w/cheap LT tires; and OEM alloys/Bridgestones from brand new Tacoma on dealer lot): high-speed shimmy happened nearly identically with all four sets. This can NOT be a balancing issue. The last set of tires/wheels (from the new Tacoma on the lot) did NOT shimmy on the new Tacoma, but did on mine (mine is an '08 w/8,000 miles). I finally - after 9 months of screwing around with the dealer & Les Schwab blaming each other for the problem - convinced the service manager at my Toyota dealer that there is something wrong with the truck itself, and not the wheels/tires.

He asked Toyota what the next step was, and they are requiring him to road force balance my wheels (the OEM alloys w/Les Schwab Toyos). I'll eat my hat if this solves the problem. If it doesn't, I'll have to pursue the Lemon Law, which - from what I've seen on this forum - is a loser process in which the manufacturer always wins arbitration. Even if they do make it right somehow, at this point I'm permanently soured on the Toyota product.

Dealer just called, said my carrier bearing is really bad and has to be replaced, also is going to make sure rear end is set at the right angle. After that if its still there they are replacing my rear end and giving me a new drive shaft. Oh and there replacing the motor and trans mount suposedly its a tsb.

I had the shimmy once this past Feb. I put it in 4WD to get to work that day and took it out of 4WD in the parking lot on the way home since the roads were clean. Once on the highway, I felt the shimmy. All the way home I was trying to figure out what it could be. I finally ended up putting it back into 4WD and then back to 2WD and I haven't had the problem since. I wonder if it's transfer case related.

you may need to spend the cash and get a tom woods drive shaft. that should take care of the problem if the shimmy/vibration is drive shaft related.
