Went to my best friend the tranny guy, said something is wrong with the torq converter. So now i have to convince the dealer of this. Im going to go to more shops and get written diagnosis.

I got a vibration after rotating my tires the first time...long story short...I had a Radial Balance Test done by my boyfriend at a Chevy dealer and my stock Dunlops are not round and way beyond acceptable limits for any tire. So basically the dealership put 2 bad tires on the rear and okay tires on the front, figured I wouldn't know till I rotated them then they would make money fixing the problem. Well I have the print outs of the measurements and the tires are marked. I am taking it to the Toyota dealer on Friday and having them replace the tires. I'm going to tell them to put something other than Dunlops all the way around, if that is a problem then it goes to Toyota Customer Service. After they correct the problem I am going to have my boyfriend test them just to make sure.

My 'vibration' is more of an up and down motion seperate on each side (kind of like rocking from side to side) and most noticable at low speeds 5-10 and high speeds 50-60. If you have a bottle of water in the cup holder you can see the water sway side to side.

this related to the folks having their transmissions replaced under warranty when the thrust/throw-out bearing goes bad?

my truck has the vibration @ 45-65mph. (08' DC Pre-Runner Sport) i took it to the dealership yesterday for the 5000 mile oil change and tire rotation and mentioned the vibe problem. she said the would check on it. she came and told me the tech during test drive experienced the vibration and he said he felt it was a tire balance problem.i was already aware of the TSB related to this issue (but said nothing) and specifically asked her if there was a TSB re. this. she responded 'no'. she informed me my truck was ready and one of the tires was in fact out of balance., soon i was on the interstate and the vibration was still there. i called her today and told her the problem was not resolved. i said 'theres no TSB on this?' she again said 'no' i said look up this TSB no. and gave her the one off of this site. she put me on hold..came back on and said yea there was one and i needed a new rear motor mount. i said 'i thought you told me yesterday there wasnt a TSB on this' she said someone erred. LOL. anyway im going back next week

Unhappy

the tsb will cure the low speed vibe(15-25mph I think) but they claim the vibe at higher speeds is normal for the few who have it and the ones who don't
the low speed vibe was normal until enough people complained and they found a fix

This can NOT be a balancing issue. The last set of tires/wheels (from the new Tacoma on the lot) did NOT shimmy on the new Tacoma, but did on mine (mine is an '08 w/8,000 miles). I finally - after 9 months of screwing around with the dealer & Les Schwab blaming each other for the problem - convinced the service manager at my Toyota dealer that there is something wrong with the truck itself, and not the wheels/tires.

He asked Toyota what the next step was, and they are requiring him to road force balance my wheels (the OEM alloys w/Les Schwab Toyos). I'll eat my hat if this solves the problem. If it doesn't, I'll have to pursue the Lemon Law, which - from what I've seen on this forum - is a loser process in which the manufacturer always wins arbitration. Even if they do make it right somehow, at this point I'm permanently soured on the Toyota product.
arbitration is not the same as a lemon law court hearing. talk with an attorney to see if you can avoid wasting your time and go right to a court hearing. each state has requirements to prove you case but the lawyer is paid out of the settlement above and beyond the restitution for your defective truck. THE VIBRATION SUBSTANTIALLY LOWERS YOUR RESALE VALUE even if you could sell a new truck that has driveline defect.

I've got the same vibration on a 4x4, 4 cyl. with a 5 speed. I don't think it's the transmission because it happens at 50-60 in either 4th or 5th. Keep us posted.
