Anyone get the teflon body treatment or extended warranty care?

So we're leasing our tacoma, only for the 0%, 36 month leasing option. That meant we had to listen to more of the dealer's options, gap insurance ($150), extended care coverage (basically $1350 to extend warranties on almost all parts to 7 years), and the teflon body treatment that guarantees against rust for 10 years ($900).

The only one which sounded reasonable was the teflon treatment. Has anyone gotten this? It seems like it might keep the vehicle looking better, won't need washing/waxing as much or at all, and they'd repair any body part that rusted. We didn't get it.

The extended care covered everything from CD player to a/c to transmission just about, but it would take a few major repairs in 7 years to pay for the additional cost. We only plan to drive a few thousand miles a year, so we didn't get it.

gap insurance, didn't get it, we have the cash to cover it.

The Teflon treatment to me sounds like it is the LEAST reasonable part of the offer/deal. Wash the truck, occasionally wax it, touch up nicks etc, and it will look almost new 36 months from now as long as it is not in an accident, vandalism, severe weather etc. If it is in an accident or similar no glorified wax is going to help a bit, but insurance will. Another thing, why get a warranty extended to 7 years on a 36mo lease? These special lease deals do not look so good anymore with all the add-ons. You can sometimes cancel the extended warranty, and shop around on your own and save significantly, or if as you say you are only going to accrue a few thousand miles a year, 36mo's will be here before 36,000 miles, and at that point if you want to purchase the truck you will have plenty of offers by mail and phone with offers for warranties at that time. The best thing to buy from a car/truck salesperson; is a car or a truck, and that only. Skip the extremely high profit BS..... So you made some good decisions leaving it off.

sorry, didn't mean lease, we bought it outright with 0% financing over 36 months.

I guess the body care deal would cover nicks, dents, or anything that causes rust on the body panels. On the car's I've had, I guess I've never spent more than a few hundred on getting dings repaired.

Congrats on the new truck, I was told by my service guy at the dealership that the extended warranty is a no-go, don't really need it. I went to Ziebart and got a lifetime no rust through for $400.00, and a yearly maintenance charge of $60.00. So maybe after a 7 years I will spend more than the deal that Toyota offered, but mine is lifetime.

i payed no where near that price for the extended warranty !!!!!

read the warranty you have as standard! now think of the cost of one service call for say a oxygen sensor at a dealer ( remember this guy is loaded with computers and electronics)

the warranty covers all ( like radio and about everything else except rubber)
good for 7 years or 100K miles ( 7 years in my case)
and i get a loaner car if it is kept overnight.

so for $10/month i do not worry about a big repair bill

you have until below 36k miles to get the extended warranty

but just like customizing your truck, i did what i think is best for me and you do what you think is best for you and we both are right !!!

I did basically the same thing. I went with Krown rust protection. It gives me peace of mind when driving through the salt dunes of Ontario. I thought about getting the extended warranty and still may but .... This is like my 6 Japanese vehicle (4 Honda's 2 Toyota's), I have never (knock on wood) had a major issue with any. I still have time to decide for the extra protection but my history is don't beat the snot out of it, change and use good oil regularly and other general maintenance and she will last for ever.

I got it. But, the more I read about detailing and cleaning and protecting the paint, the more I regret getting the treatment.

I feel I can do it myself now.

I've run my hand over the Teflon'd paint and feel roughness. I think a good wash, clay bar, then polish and sealer from Klasse will do it better than stock X once per month.

I have the Teflon treatment on my 06 and not convinced it was worth it the money.
Guess it has saved me a couple bottles of car wax so far.

I had it put on mine. Paid $550. It also covers the interior if the carpet/seats get stained and it cann't be removed completely they have to replace (in writing). Also for the paint, it's added protection because today, although the paints are good, they are now water based for environmental reasons and the clear coat isn't as durable against road salt, bird droppings, tree sap damage ect. and is covered by the teflon coating contract. Plus it's suppose to help keep that new car like shine longer.

Don't know if it does do all it's suppose to do but it's an added security to protect my long term investment. And a good regular waxing on top of it to boot every couple of months to add to the protection.

Even if it isn't as good as reported, at least I know when I spill coffee in my seat for the first time (and I know I will someday soon) I'm covered - or at least my seats are

Good points GSM, forgot about the interior protection that came with the deal.
I have had my truck for just over a year and fortunatly haven't spilled anything yet, but then I don't drink while driving. LOL

The guys who put the treatment on for me at the dealership told me to wax as normal after waiting 3-4 weeks. Said the wax wouldn't hurt the coating and would help it last longer.

I've waxed it and it went on smooth and wiped off easily. When it gets wet it beads up nicely. Due to wax, teflon, or both who knows
