You know, that is the strange thing about our trucks. It seems that our trucks like to play "Possum" and act like it doesn't have much power, if you just drive it around normally.
But go beyond half throttle and these truck really haul ass!

I think your right. I think it's just the different engine characterestics. Down lower in the rpm's, it seems the Nissan is stronger. Higher in the rpm's it seems the Toyota is stronger.

I'd have to disagree with that! I rode in a 2007 Frontier 4x4 Double Cab 6spd with the 4 liter and lotsa mods (Intake, exhaust, headers, chip and lockers) going up Volcano from Mt.View in Hawaii. My friend constantly downshifted from 6th to 3rd or 4th with a half a load. I take my 06 Access Cab Tacoma 4x4 6spd 4 liter bone stock except the BFG at's and cruise it up the same hill in 6 gear unless we have someone driving less than 45mph. I'll agree when he shifted to 3 and punched it, it hauled a** but it just ain't the same. Plus I had to tow him up a hill which had loose grade with bald BFG AT's and my locker. He had Firestone Destinations and just dug holes. I will admit the trans is geared for the flat pavement but when obstacles are in place it struggles.

I've had my 10 prerunner for about a month as well.
I really like it so far but can't seem to find many mods yet such as afe pro dry.
Nobody lists part numbers past 09's yet and not sure if they're the same.
But the truck rocks and I get many compliments on it.

Frontier is heavier and the 1GR-FE produces more of its power earlier in the RPM band. From what I've been told by people who have seen the curves, the Frontier's six only beats the Taco's 6 on paper when the numbers spike at peak.

For real world driving (i.e. 4000 RPM or less), the Taco actually puts out more juice. Essentially, the Frontier's "victory" is on paper only.

This, along with a very efficient transmission, is supposedly why the Taco feels 'snappier'.

Remember, it ain't about the power on the spec sheet...it's about what's actually reaching the wheels. Another strong argument for keep your vehicles properly maintained.
