steering rack/ steering flutter tsb???

anyone have any info on this tsb and anyone know if it includes the 06?? anyone have a link to the actual tsb that i can print up?? i know it involves the 05, but i think i really need this done on my 06(i think they replace a spring in the steering rack??!).

i've spent an assload of $$$ on tire balances(regular computer balance and road force balance)new tires(went from my wrangler silent armors to my revos), alignments galore and its not fixing the problem of the steering wheel shaking at "freeway" speeds....like 60/70mph.

any info will be much appreciated!!!

dumb questions
stock rims ?
any lift? ( ok i am not a expert but seen troubles with stock uca's on lifts and hard time getting it in and if so still the geometry is not good)

think it has rack and pinion steering, any play in it? (they can get sloppy )
any play in the front tires when jacked up ? ( wheel bearings?) ( and would "fool" a good tire balance as tire is balanced but rim vibrates )

ever had anyone "chase" you along the freeway and look at tires and suspension while it is happening?

why i ask is years ago i had a pretty bad shimmy at 65 mph and tire alignment shops said ok, well i had my brother chase me and found right rear wheel was bouncing all over hell, put on spare and i lucked out
and it fixed it and maybe someone can see something looking at it while it is happening !!!

havent tried the "chase" deal yet. tried jacking it up and checking the whole suspension for any abnormal looseness. plus i always torque my lugnuts the 87 ft/lb recommendation.

the steering wheel shake is just annoying as hell, and to my estimation, shouldnt be happening like it is.

ok i just went outside to confirm this part!

i have just a stock 5 lugger i don't know a thing about the prerunner front end at all

with the truck just sitting there turn the steering wheel left and right a bit
how much play till resistance????
i have 335 miles so brand new but i have NONE AT ALL
i can feel the resistance when i start to turn it one inch or less

wondering if you just have a sloppy front end ( nothing personnel ;-D)
if you have play might be time to have a long hard talk with the service department and would easily explain the "hunting" and vibrations

well, i just had my tires balanced again this past weekend(normal computer balance this time), so i think i'll take my truck back to the dealership and let them road-force balance the tires and see what they have to say about "steering flutter" and maybe any problems with the steering rack..............tsb-wise anyway.

Have you rotated the tires to see if it increases/decreases the problem.
I know that on mine, I recently had the tires rotated and leaving the stealer I noticed that the steering wheel was shaking. I complained, took it back and they mentioned that it is hard to balance custom wheels. I am pretty sure that they just rotated the tires back to the way they were and this fixed the problem. Sucks, especially since I bought it with these wheels and tires already on it from the stealer.

like i said, im gonna go to stealer this wknd and get the tires road force balanced(havent done this with the revos yet....just normal computer spin) and see if that will take care of the problem. who knows??

ok "back in the day"
we called that getting the tired "trued"???

remove a bit of rubber to make sure it is round, then balance
did you try the "chase" test and how much play in the steering wheel when just sitting (with the engine off)?

also wondering about "excessive run out" on your rims?
run out just like on a disk brake rotor
(looking at a rotor spinning from "gods point of view" and see how much left/right play)

havent had a chance to try the "chase" part yet, but as far as checking the free play.....none to speak of really, which is to be expected from a rack and pinion setup. and road force balancing, doesnt remove rubber, but it does true up the tire to the rim, pressure forced basically is how i understand it anyway. gonna try that this weekend and see if that helps....but i may also have to lower my psi just a bit too....not sure yet. right now im running 32 in front /30 in rear............................29,like what owners manual calls for, seems like not enough air to me.

im also thinking of getting one of those shurtrax bladder bet weight deals, may make mpg go down a bit, but will probably smooth out the ride pretty good, especially on the interstate where im constantly running 65/75 mph.

ok, i would spend some time talking to the wheel guys and tell them to check everything
out of true rim, non round tire can cause your trouble and you won't be able to just see it with your eyeballs ;-D and they should have the goodies to check them !

not even going to talk about the trouble i had back in the 70's with 5 spoke american mag rims ;-D but that is when i really got disgusted at the quality of wheel products and how they make them look good but not work right cause not true rims!

definitely gonna do that(talking to the wheel techs).

little rant here though.........what the hell is up with so many pot holes the size of a small house, and really crappy roads??? states, counties and cities suck at fixing things. alot of the ways the roads are so screwed up ,as far as im concerned, have alot to do with automobiles getting torn up!!!
