The nice thing about mods that replace stock parts is your stock parts stay nice and new. When it comes time to sell, take all the mods off and put the original pieces, in like-new condition, back on the truck. Then you get top dollar for the truck and you can still probably sell some of the mods for a few extra bucks (or keep them for your next Taco!)

Great point^^^.Because my truck is leased, any mods that I do to my truck are done with the idea that I may have to give it back.My plan is to buy it at the end of it's term and have it for a long time but things happen.I figure that I could have my truck back to bone stock in about a day.

Very good point. The rims are a great case in point. Of course I would have to sell the new rims because they might be too small for my next truck. :D

Add a Supercharger!! That will definitely turn some heads and the value will go up to some people.

    mods decrease value

that's why I'm keeping my truck until it dies

alot of it depends on warranty and who did the work. For ie if you had one dealership do all your performance part install work than it will hold better than if you had the parts installed by 10 different places or you did it in your garage

I think if you find the right buyer they might increase the value but finding that buyer is easier said then done. So i would agree with most... keep the stock parts for when you decide to sell it and sell the mods separate.

even installed by dealer, unless it's a supercharger and it's still under warranty.

A revtek lift that you paid 4 times more at the dealer will yield you less than the "tresst" price for it, even though a little more because it was dealer installed.

Same for the iPod dealer option.. it's like $350.. no one will pay more than a brand new PA15TOY for like $150.. dealer installed or not.

lets say the vehicle gets written off, the insurance company isnt going to give you extra money for your mods usually so why would someone buying it? Insurance where I live will pay for the parts but not the labour and only if they were bought in the last year I believe.

yeah, but you can probably go recover some of the mods...switch out shit, pull the stereo, put on some shitty rims and tires, pull lift, I've done that before just tell them to haul the totaled truck to your house which gives you time...most junk yards don't want you messing with stuff..but a 20 spot might get you in the yard with some tools to get working on pulling some things...hell I've come out nicely ahead once because of this :)

I for one wouldn't even consider buying a heavily modded truck.

This....I made this mistake once...and had to have a rebuild -block up because of it. That super charger worked fucking awesome after it was finished tho. Cause I either did the work or knew the guy who did.

Mine gets an appraisal adn they cover the full amount, each appraisal is valid for 5 years so the value is good for 5 years even if you add stuff or stuff depreciates.

it's the same insurance as hot rods or rare cars. The appraiser considers everything, parts, install, etc in order to do your appraisal.

Then the insurance co. gives you an updated rate but covers that exacta mount for 5 years

And how much more is this insurance than normal insurance companies like Statefarm..etc?

I know I can add additional coverage for stereo, add ons ect but most of the time it doesn't pay. The only way I'd lose is if the truck was stolen..

Mods increase value to the right buyer..you can buy a lifted truck with nice rims tires etc cheaper then buying everything seperate yourself.

Not reall anything will. I gotta agree with everyone else, keep the stock parts for when you sell it. Because when you sell it, it may be exactly what you want your truck to look like, but it may be nothing that the potential buyer is looking for, but if you have a stock truck, they can see all the possibilities for what they want it to look like.
