Just picked up a '05 yesterday. My first taco! Doing a little searching around the forums and noticed this thread....

I have the 3 leaf springs, but am out of warranty (70k miles). Any thoughts on whether they'll cover it or not?

Either way, i'm lovin' life! Great truck!

Just got my truck back today with the TSB done. I have to say that there is a huge noticeable difference. I highly recommend this to be done. It's really worth the time away from your baby. Thanks to Mitch over at my local dealer.

This is the first time I have had new shocks put on any vehicle of mine. Has anyone noticed any squeaky noises coming from the new shocks? I noticed mine kind of make a noise when it rebounds from a bump. I tried to reproduce the noise by pushing down on my bull bar repeatedly but I couldn't get them to make the noise. I may not have been pushing hard enough. I'm not too knowledgeable on new shocks, they may just have to loosen up a bit. We'll wait and see I guess.

Is 2008 covered under this? I looked under my truck and I have the whimpy 3 leaf.

I called the 1 800 Toyota number and they didn't care.

I know that some people have managed to get their 2008 done. As of right now there is no TSB out for the 2008 (although i am sure there will be one soon). It's more up to the dealer that you go to on whether they are willing to do it. Some are more willing than others.

Thumbs up Universal Toyota

I went for an oil change and a rattle in the dash the Toyota rep. called me the next day to say your truck is ready and by the way we changed out your leaf springs. I didn't even mention it to him when I dropped the truck off they just did it and fixed the rattle very nice Universal toyota san Antonio

The plus side is that I have my Tacoma back with the leaf spring upgrade, and it's a noticeable improvement in the ride.

The down side is that it took my dealer two days to do it...

As do all three of my coworkers that got new Tacos after trading in their rusted older Tacos[1]. One of them is going to try his luck at the local dealer.

[1] Want to see what 100s of older Tacos lined up in a field looks like? White River Toyota has several hundred from the tradein.

They would be able to tell because the rubber bumpers on the frame would indicate that. Your best bet...load your truck up some of the biggest guys you know in the cab. Then drive down a road that is uneven, or crawl over a curb. Mine truly did bottom out on a dirt road with five people in it. It was like somebody was banging a rubber mallet under the bed.

I went to the Toyota Dealership for an oil change. I brought up the fact that my truck was making banging noises in the back. I told them that the truck was bottoming out. I told them the rubber cushions had indications of this. I asked them if they had heard any problems related to rough/harsh/bumpy/or noisy rides from the back of the truck. I asked them if they had any Service bulletins, memos, or tech specs, because Toyota is really good at keeping up with their product. I also put a compressor in the truck from the Tractor Supply Company, 300+ lbs. I described the ride as mushy, and rolling and maybe unsafe. I asked them to look into this because it was my honest opinion that either the springs were weak, or the shocks were blown. I wasn't confrontational I just spoke matter of factly, and told them I was going to research the information when I had the time.

I never did call the Toyota Experience line...Mine is a 2008. If you look on the top of your leaf springs...there will be white numbers on the backs of them. Download the TSB information. See if these parts are the same as yours.

What did they say was causing the rattle in your dash? I have one, and cant seem to locate the source.
