its all in the parts TSB rear leaf springs
OK kids heres the deal.
look at the top of your leaf spring (Yes even on your 08 Taco) if the part # is 48210-04550 (right side) / 48220-04190-F (left hand) AND you are in warrentee You get new springs. All back talk is dealer BS. its the spring problem and has nothing to do with the way you drive your truck or the weight you carry around. You will have a stiffer ride and a slightly higher rear clearance (which means a greater departure clearance angle For you rock hoppers out there. If your all into comfortable rides and all you carry about is your over stuffed teddy bear collection the originals are probably better for you. If you are seriously towing or hauling stuff about O wuld suggest getting the tougher springs. I Can not beleive they dont include the tougher springs in any vehicle with a towing package. IF you have the towing package in an 08 this is a barganing point in your favor. However, if you got this spring set and want the new one get it for free. we will likely see early run 08's added to the TSB in september 08. Be nice but firm and dont take no for a answer. veiw from right hand rear wheel well. Oh yeah one more point . the proper chain of command here is : Your Friendly Toyota Dealer Toyota Customer Experiance Center 1-800-331-4331 NCDS arbitration (information in your warranty rights notification "blue" book) Nation Center for Dispute Settlement P.O. Nope. When I hit small bumps, I hear a "thumping" sound in the dash. Im thinking it could be the hood, or the passenger airbag. Its possible that I hit something a little too hard, causeing something to give in my dash.

any who I loaded up 2 120 Qt igloo marine coolers in the back of my TACO and filled them up with water . by my calculation this should weigh 512# which is well under the load capacity rating of 1205# (pg 404 owners manual) of my access cab 4x4 with out my fat ass in it. or the 905# + my fat ass and 65# of cookies and Popsicles (pg 416 Tacoma owners manual.)so I figure if I put my fat ass and 65# of snacks and 905# I would be riding on the blocks. which is just simply fucked up. measuring the distance to the frame from the rear blocks I got less than 2" in the first case. So then I decided to go for a little light weight local rock hopping out in the back 40 . Well she bottomed out repeatedly . Now I didnt go over anything that I wouldnt likely experiance on a modest class 1 trail like what you might find on an improved forest service road to some unimproved dry campsight. Heck I even bottomed out after the ride and some of the water got splashed out when I drove up into my driveway where the bump is not much more than your common everyday speed bump. Heck my old91 b2600i 4x4 would take that with 60 12"x4" pavestones inthe back and yell for more. I hate to say it my bros but the tacos stock rear springs are JUST FRICKIN WEAK!! too frickin weak for a truck with its specified towing and hauling capabilities. Now I couldn't imaging what she would be feeling if I hitched up a 3 ton power boat and tossed a big cooler of beer in the back and headed out for a bit of a fishing trip. Kinda like in the commercial. but I figure I'd be riding on blocks the entire time and that just aint right.so anyway I'll be heading up to Centennial Toytota tomorrow so the service guy can give her a looksie and he WILL see evidence of bottoming out those springs. I going to mention the tailgate TSB while Im at it. Im sure those 120 QT coolers might bend that thing some next time I haul them out. |

leaf TSB replacement for 08 04550-F
Ok centennial Toyota is ordering the parts and have agreed to replace my 48210-04550-F and 48220-04190-F for free.
I was glancing at the Newly delivered 08 extended cabs and they have the same springs as mine but were given the suffix "G" with ++ near the ends of the spring. perhaps this is the new spring set they are talking about. I looked at some of their used tacos and saw some with the designation "D" and a 07 double cab with the same designation as Mine which again is "F". I dont know if this designation has anything to do with some people getting turned down for the TSB and others being accepted. Im going to shoot a PM to the guy who said he was turned down and ask if he has the "G++" designation on his springs. IF he has the "F" designation as my 08 and the 07 double cab I looked at then I figure he might want to Arbitrate the desision. I mean WHy should a guy with a 07 with the same exact rear suspension set up get the replacement parts and the guy with an 08 get stiffed? I mean I sawn no difference in the rear end suspension set up between a 07 TRD and an newly delivered TRD except a rear leaf with a G++ designation rather than a "F" designation. Any way I took the TSB and pics of both my springs in to the service guy and told him my story about bottoming out at the TTTI and with the coolers and showed him the TSB. then he took the truck away to get it looked at. a bout an hour later he told me they were going to order the parts and should have them in the next day or two. Ill let you guys know exactly which springs I got and anything else they said. timmer |

Discovered the TSB yesterday. My 07 Dcab bottoms frequently. I've got shiny spots were the bump stops hit. I'm at 18 months and 42K miles, but see in the posts that many have succeeded in getting it done when past 3yr/36K. Got an appt tomorrow and have contacted toy c/s via email, but have not got a response yet. We'll see what happens.
Added pic of shinny spots. |

As long as your warranty has not run out, you should be OK to get this installed. Some dealerships are real stickler about the warranty while some are just happy to get the work done. Somw will insist on you to demonstrate that the truck has bottomed out while some will not care....
So pick and choose wisely... See the post in the front (sticky) on the dealershipd who have performed this TSB for the one near you.... Also, GET the TSB printour before you go... Good luck. PS: My ride since the TSB has been just incredible. Rock solid and I am almost inclined to say that the ride is better than my wife's 2006 Acura TL. |

TSB'd
Lucky is me. Took truck to dealership with harsh-ride concern. They quickly identified that I was over 36K. I politelty noted that I had been loyal to Toyota by purchasing 6 new Toyotas in the past 10 years, and requested a "Goodwill" warranty claim for the TSB fix. They honored it. I got 4 TRD shocks, 4-pack leaves, ubolts and allignment. Install was good the first time, and they knocked it out in 1 day. Ride is exceptional compared to previous setup. Ride height in back is up by at least 1 1/2 inches, but I have not measured the "after" yet. Feels better in cornering, soaks up bumps that used to bounce me all over the road, and feels more solid/tight. I would encourage anyone to get the TSB Suspension fix. Even if you're over the warranty mileage, if you have good history with the dealership, either through service or purchases, and you are polite, yet assertive, your chances are pretty good. I went to Universal in San Antonio, Tx. They are alreay listed in the "Did TSB" thread. If anyopne from Universal is on this thread - Thanks and Good job.

TSB 07 Springs
Thanks for this great thread. Took my 07 into the dealer to fix the TSB leaf spring. Service center said they might not be able to fix since I am 3k over warranty.
I purchased the taco used 2 weeks ago along with the Platinum extended warranty. Told them I tow a 18' boat, haul firewood and that we might as well fix it now. After informing the service dept, of the Platinum, they ordered the parts. Looks like the ext. warranty is already paying off. Jay |

with the tsb springs, you will have a bit of lift in the rear, but over time, it will settle a bit.

TSB 07 Springs
Here are some shots of my before and after. They were wrong about the extended warranty coverage, extended would not cover the TSB ... however, my truck was only 2k over on miles, so they were able to do the TSB as a goodwill.
The new leafs raised the back about 1 1/4". I was lucky and my dealer did my front shocks also. The truck rides so much better, especially when loaded. Huge thanks to Marion Toyota! Jay |
