yes, you qualify. it's based on the "customers complaint". and it's free

Customers are not notified proactively about TSBs. These notices are distributed to dealerships. They typically contain the manufacturer-recommended solution to address a common, or hard to diagnose, problem. At least in theory, you would only get the work authorized if you experience a problem and bring the vehicle in for it. There are web sites that list TSBs if you are willing to do some research.

TSBs are different than "recalls" or "service campaigns" where a customer would be proactively contacted and asked to bring in their vehicle for a repair.

Here is a pretty decent write up of the way it works:

http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/ser...5/article.html

Note that dealers are not absolutely obligated to perform the service recommended by the TSB on any vehicle that they see in their shop. Some shops will just do it, while others might make you show them the problem first.

You will get 4 new Bilstein shocks only if you have a NON-TRD truck as stated by the TSB.

I have a TRD truck and just got my truck back from doing the TSB. (no new shocks) I must say I really like the ride. Rear seems stiffer but more responsive.

Mine was done Tuesday, 100% better ride, corners great now, rides higher. The back end is a lot higher than the front, but it looks good. I got 4 Bilsteins, 4-leaf pack & u-bolts w/ allignment. I love it.

You are going about it all wrong. Do not contact the dealer first. Call 1-800-331-4331 Toyota Customer Care number and make your pitch. Play dumb and say that you experienced "bottoming out" event when you had your trucl loaded only about 350 to 400 lb. Again, playing dumb, ask the Toyota Rep if it is "normal" for the truck to BOTTOM OUT like that.

Then you say that the manual calls for "xyz" lb loading capacity. The Rep will put you on hold and do a search. (Remember it is called, "HARSH RIDE something" in the TSB). If the Toyota Rep comes back and says thst he/she cannot find anything, suggest very diplomatically and politely that you have heard from a fellow Taco owner that she/he look up the "Harsh Ride" TSB.

It worked for me. The Toyota Rep found it onher Data screen and asked me where I want to take the truck to get it done. She said she would contact them with a "PRE-AUTHORIZATION" for parts and labor. This is when I told her that I would take it to "ABC" Dealership. The Toyota Rep will tell you that you will get a phone call from that dealership Service Advisor for you to make an appointment.

ONE final comment: Before you take your truck in, MEASURE (take pics also if you can) the current height and record it so you can compare it to the new height after the TSB. I measured mine from the point where the wheel touches the flat street surface crossing over the CENTER of the Hub to the underside of the Fender flare. Mine was 36-1/2" before and 37-3/4" after the TSB.

Remember, it will settle after you have driven it for a while, so I would not worry about the INCREASED height too much. Give it some time and measure again.

COME BACK AND POST BEFORE AND AFTER pictures from the same position...

Good luck.

Can you have this done if you have a base model taco? Or does it have to be a 4x4 or offroad edition? Thanks

I just called the Toyota number a couple hours ago and they won't do a thing for TSB work. They referred me to the dealer. I called a local place and they put parts on order and will do the work when they come in

I called Toyota's c/s number and they said they don't have a # for the TSB. When I called my dealership the service writer said to bring the truck in and they would have a look at it. He specifically asked me NOT to refer to a TSB and to state that the rear suspension bottoms out under load.
Does anyone have the actual TSB#?

Thanks,
TacoMon

One thing that most Taco owners who are affected by this Leaf Spring TSB does NOT know is that 1-800-331-Toyota Customer care number is staffed by non technical operators. It is a hit or miss. Sometimes you get lucky and get an operator who understand the "lingo" and look it up in the RIGHT place, and other times you get an operator who would not know a LEAF SPRING if one hit him/her in the head. So it is like a "trial" until you get it right.

Call the 1-800-331-something number again and again until you get the satisfactory response. Write the operator's name and case # (they will give you a case # ) if your truck qualifies for the FREE TSB.

Now go back and DIAL THAT NUMBER until you get your satisfaction !!!
When you do get what you want, come back here and thank me and everyone else who has helped you !!! Just kiddin'

Remember: Be very polite and diplomatic. Read my post a few notches up above. I always like to act dumb (sometimes I feel dumb and wife also thinks I am a dumba$$, but then that's another story in itself... he he .)

Edit: Sorry I did not read your post completely where you said you get the local dealership to order parts for you... Good job !!

The TSB was for the 05 - 06 models, but as I understand it if you complained loud enough they would do it to the 07 model as well.

I called the customer service number, 1-800-331-4331, and gave them the TSB # and they took it from there. They called the factory representative for my dealership and the next day (today) the dealership called me. The service manager wanted to explain how the ride would "stiffen" and become "firmer". I think they were trying to talk me out of doing it. Anyhow, the service manager told me he would call me back with the "price list". I thought this was covered and performed at no charge. Any input on this pricing issue would be appreciated as he is supposed to be calling me back tomorrow.
