I got mine done a few weeks ago and it is still bottoming out. They said they are working on a solution to my problem??? What ever that is... They are putting a trans in the bed of a new 08 and are going to see if it does it with it in a new one. I told them that it doesn't matter what the 08 does mine is an 07 and it is still having the problem. what do I do now??

Do you have the 4 springs and Bilsteins? Some guys got a 3 spring pack put on by accident.

What are you carrying that is bottoming out your truck?? I carried two separate loads of topsoil last week. One load weighed in at 925# ,the other at 1105# according to their scale on the loader. I didnt want to go over 1000#, but the second scoop was a little big. I dont think we are rated to go much over 1000#

On both loads the truck rode great and even going over the big speed humps in my development the truck didnt bottom. With the old springs I had a 500# or so load of mulch in the bed and it bottomed on the slightest dip in the road! Even carrying back a load of stone tile the truck rode like crap with the old springs.

Is this upgrade for the TRD's only, or do they apply to all 4x4 models, to that this is only covered if your vehicle is still under waranty right? I have a '05 taco with a little over 37000 miles, bought it from florida, but live in Canada, hand no problem getting it saftied here though.

All Access or Double cab 6 lug trucks. Regular cab or 5 lug trucks are not included. Also, only good through the 3year 36,000 mile factory warranty for sure, not sure if this is covered through an extended warranty, I believe that the jury is still out on that part.

I know I haven't formally introduced myself yet (just got an 07 DCSB last week) but I just thought I'd mention that it took two phone calls to the 1-800 Toyota number but I believe I should be getting the leaf spring upgrade handled. First call I played dumb, explained my problem, and basically got told to go see my dealer to see if they could replicate the problem. Called back a few hours later to try my luck and got a nice girl on the phone. I was much more forward saying that I had a TSB issued for my vehicle and I was calling for pre-authorization for the warranty work. She did a little verifying and asked where I wanted the work done. That simple. Hopefully all will go well with the dealer. I picked this particular dealer because they were mentioned in the "Dealers who have done the spring TSB" thread.

On a separate but still TSB-related note, I discovered I have the whistling windshield issue that was mentioned in a TSB. Problem is the TSB I found through this site lists the problem for 05 Taco's only. I can recreate the problem so I shouldn't have too much trouble getting it handled. I hope.

Welcome to the Board..... Glad to hear that you were able to get the "pre-Authorization" through Toyota 1-800 number. I started this post way back when and my experience was that... Hit or Miss... If you get a good operator, you sail smooth and get your leaf springs, if not, you get a run-around. So I have been advising members to call, call, can call until they get someone who understand the TSB issues...

I called yesterday and got a really good operator. He said there were a lot of complaints about this and assigned me a case number. He also said there were Toyota reps in each region who handle complaints and someone would be calling me in 1-3 days. We'll see what happens.

Same here, I called the 800 number yesterday. The lady was real nice, I explained the problem and said "my neighbor" who has the same truck suggested I call the 800# instead of the Dealer directly. (explained I didn't know how it worked) I just bought the truck on the 10th of March, used '06 with 8800 miles, and I am still waiting for the tags to come in and there is a "we owe" for a couple dents they are going to take out. I hope to get all this work done at the same time. The 800# representative found the TSB, updated my info as the owner of this vehicle, gave me a case number and informed me I should hear from the Dealer in 1-3 days. So nice in fact I gave her a 9 or 10 on the survey questions I participated in after the call.

I hope I don't get a hassle from the dealership, they are located about an hour away and would like to get everything done at the same time. If they do it right (correct parts, alignment) I will buy the service department a couple 3 or 4 pizza's one day as a token of gratitude.

Thanks for this post everyone... AND the TSB pdf about the truck bottoming out... That PDF was the saver for me.

I called the service mgr at Champion Toyota in Austin Tx today and the 1800#. They both were really nice and in less than 1 hr (Champion called me back) after checking into this with his Regional Mgr... Champion agreed to preform all the work after he orders the parts. Mine is out of warranty at 70K right now.

Will let you know how the ride is, and if it fixes the problem. I will make sure they put on the 4 leaf.

after hauling some rocks for landscaping projects i got really tired of
bottoming out. carried any where from 400 to 600 pounds on several different trips. so after reading thru this thread last night i called the 800
number and explained the problem the lady found the TSB and documented
the whole thing and forwarded it to my local dealer, now i have to call them
and find out the details. she said my truck was definatly covered.

Just checked my new '08 4x4 DC SB, build date of 2/08. The one spring is CHI 48220-04190-F LH in white lettering. The other is CHI 48210-04550-F RH in yellow lettering. They are both 3 packs. I read earlier in this post the part numbers but it didn't have all the letters I mentioned above, just the second block of numbers after the first dash which are the ones mentioned above. So I guess my springs are the older ones then? Some people mentioned they were told some '08s have an "upgraded" 3 pack that does the same as the 4 pack.
I already went to one of my local dealers today and they won't do it since the "system" doesn't show the TSB for any '08s yet. Guess I've have to go through the 800 number now.

4x4 and pre-runner trucks are all 6 lug trucks. It is not particularly rare I suppose, but it is not as easy to find as say an access cab 4x4 if that answers your question.

They are the old ones. No improvement on the 08's as far as beefing up the 3 leafs. Some of us with 08's are getting them done. I'm certain that the 08's will be added to the TSB shortly as the 09's will probably start coming out by Sept.. Curious what will be on them?

So I have a 3 year extended bumper to bumper waranty that I got on my 2005 Tacoma so I called the waranty company the other day to see if they would cover this TSB. After being on hold for a bit they told me I would need to bring it into the dealer and have the dealer look at it and then contact the waranty company. They said if its considered a failure then they would cover it, if its just an engineering upgrade then they would not.

So you think I should bother taking my time to bring it in? My guess is they will not cover it. I would love to get it done thougg since I plan to tow with this truck and haul heavy loads sometimes.

Thanks

^^^ You will definitely want this performed if you are planning to tow. Even though the Dealer doesn't "have to" do it, the right thing would be to do so. There are reports of out of warranty vehicles getting it done I think it just boils down to your individual Dealer.

Good luck.

DO IT... I picked mine up yesterday. It was out of warranty,, and they still did the work. I first called the 1800 toyota customer excellence number, and they said they would cover it, then called the dealer with the TSB number. They also replaced all my shocks with the springs.
I do not see how this is an Eng upgrade. This is an issue with the truck not meeting the design spec in the first place..

If you have to call different dealers to find one that will do it, then do that. I am very glad I got this done. Ride is not that much different (bit stiffer) but well worth it.

I picked my truck up Monday after the TSB was installed and it rides great. I didn't know it would make that much of a difference but it does. I hit this one particular bump on Hwy 70 between Raleigh and Durham that used to rattle the hell out of my truck and it was smooth as glass after the TSB. I sure didn't want to let this go becuase I will haul things and possibly tow things in the future.

It was kind of funny, when I was sparing with the service writer about getting this work done he eventually started to coach me on what to say to get this done under warranty. By that I mean he said things like "So you're experienceing a harsh ride, is that correct? The title of the TSB is "Rear Spring Harsh Ride" so I replied emphatically YES. Definatly mention Harsh Ride when you go to the dealer.
