Just picked up a '05 yesterday. My first taco! Doing a little searching around the forums and noticed this thread....
I have the 3 leaf springs, but am out of warranty (70k miles). Any thoughts on whether they'll cover it or not? Either way, i'm lovin' life! Great truck! |

This is the first time I have had new shocks put on any vehicle of mine. Has anyone noticed any squeaky noises coming from the new shocks? I noticed mine kind of make a noise when it rebounds from a bump. I tried to reproduce the noise by pushing down on my bull bar repeatedly but I couldn't get them to make the noise. I may not have been pushing hard enough. I'm not too knowledgeable on new shocks, they may just have to loosen up a bit. We'll wait and see I guess.

I know that some people have managed to get their 2008 done. As of right now there is no TSB out for the 2008 (although i am sure there will be one soon). It's more up to the dealer that you go to on whether they are willing to do it. Some are more willing than others.

I went for an oil change and a rattle in the dash the Toyota rep. called me the next day to say your truck is ready and by the way we changed out your leaf springs. I didn't even mention it to him when I dropped the truck off they just did it and fixed the rattle very nice Universal toyota san Antonio

They would be able to tell because the rubber bumpers on the frame would indicate that. Your best bet...load your truck up some of the biggest guys you know in the cab. Then drive down a road that is uneven, or crawl over a curb. Mine truly did bottom out on a dirt road with five people in it. It was like somebody was banging a rubber mallet under the bed.

I went to the Toyota Dealership for an oil change. I brought up the fact that my truck was making banging noises in the back. I told them that the truck was bottoming out. I told them the rubber cushions had indications of this. I asked them if they had heard any problems related to rough/harsh/bumpy/or noisy rides from the back of the truck. I asked them if they had any Service bulletins, memos, or tech specs, because Toyota is really good at keeping up with their product. I also put a compressor in the truck from the Tractor Supply Company, 300+ lbs. I described the ride as mushy, and rolling and maybe unsafe. I asked them to look into this because it was my honest opinion that either the springs were weak, or the shocks were blown. I wasn't confrontational I just spoke matter of factly, and told them I was going to research the information when I had the time.
