Dynamat Substitute at Home Depot?

Just wondering if there is any other type of product out there that I could get at Home Depot or Lowes that would do the same thing as Dynamat, Ramatt etc etc, withoug having to pay over $100.00? There has to be something out there? Anyone usinging any common material to sound proof there truck?


on a side note...anyone getting a rattle from the passengers side sliding seat belt unit?

i've got my '06 Tacoma completely sound deadened through the whole truck with raamat and ensolite...its awesome stuff...

dynamat is highly overpriced...

 

How is it any different than foam from home depot?

 

yeah my seat belt (pass-unused) rattles all the time, dives me nuts. so i just keep it buckled.

i think one of the major differences is the heat tolerance... stuff made for the car stands up to the up and down heat changes

 

My passenger seatbelt rattles all the time as well - well it used to...

I took some velcro (only used the softer of the two sides) and placed in on the back of the seat belt. now when it bumps into the plastic side wall of the truck, the velcro absorbs the blow, deadening 80-90% of this annoyance.

Great idea with the seat belt!

Mine makes that noise too. but it also seems to be coming from inside the actual chest belt height adjuster on the door.....any one else have this.....was thinking about dynamat back behind there to solve this...


anyone have install pics for dynamatt?

 

the install isn't hard at all its just extremely time consuming...if your like me and went all out by sound deadening the whole cab you will have to remove all the door panels, roof, seats, rear firewall, carpet...and some other stuff...

I don't think i'd be able to put my truck back together after that....let alone take it apart.

I was able to get the door pannels off to do the leather arm rest mod

 

its not hard to keep track of all the bolts and screws and where they go...

this is how I do it...

when removing any parts whether interior, exterior, and even engine components I take things apart 1 side at a time and have all the bolts and screws in size all together in direct line of site of that part that it came from...that way when putting everything back in reverse order you have everything directly in front of you and its almost full proof...

 

Not sure what you are referring to with the home depot foam, but I would skip foam. Look in the roofing section. I read somewhere maybe here or another av forum that the original design for what is known as sound deadning material came from using some sort of roofing material. If you do find something in Depot roofing department let us know and take some pics.

I personally used raammat, I bought a roll of "b" grade from him because he was out of stock on the other stuff. It was super cheap, like $120 for a huge roll. I did all 4 doors both inside and out and have a ton left over, at least enough to do the back wall when I tear into that.

does anyone know how much sound deadening (dynamat style) you would need to do a double cab? rough estimate will do. really want to do the back board behind the rear seat,floor board, and the 4 door panels. roof would be nice, but not completely necessary.
