I am planning on painting my stock wheels black and was wondering if those that have done this already painted the lugs as well. I have seen some that leave them chrome/silver but some are black.

I also do not know if I should go matte/flat black or gloss. So I am still deciding on that as well. Thanks!

i happen to have my set of black lugs from my previous truck, so i put them on after painting my rims.
painting went well. i washed rims, scuff sanded them with scotch brite, cleaned with rubbing alchol, used rustolium semi-gloss black spray paint, one coat on the inside, two on the outside.
did a write up on it, think i labeled it painted steel rims easy. go check it out

Skistoy, I had been looking at your thread for the past few days, it is a very good write up. I guess I will need to buy some black lugs looks like :)

I was gonna ask ya, did you set your vehicle on stands or what was the process for doing more than one at a time for painting?

I was thinking of doing one at a time, I will have to buy some type of stand or something for the vehicle. I read somewhere on your thread also that they had to use 400 grit sandpaper (may have been a diff thread) as the Scotch pad did not work for them, do I just need to spend more time scuffing with the pad for it work adhere better?

And then I will have to choose the type of black to use.

Just to let you know i used the scotch bright pad and the paint blistered but maybe i bought the wrong kind. So i just useed 400 gritt sand paper and it turned out great. And my lugs are still chrome.

Skyhigh, your truck looks sweet man, nice clean look. I had de-badged mine as well a while back. To save some money for now, I may leave the lugs chrome like you did until I find some blacks for a good price.

Both of your trucks look awesome with the stock blacked out wheels so that makes my decision in keeping them instead of spending cash replacing. Maybe later on I can switch them out. I notice you didn't have your front license plate which I wish I could remove but just afraid of being pestered by the police.

    Thanks for the reply guys!

I left my lug nuts silver. Scuff up those rims, maybe 150-400 grit. Solid coat primer, wet sand (2000 grit). 2 light coats Rustolium Satin black. Then one last solid coat at the end. Took her out on a trail run and no chips. Good luck.

TPMS are on the inside of the wheel. You don't have to worry about them when painting, just tape off the valve stem.

If you have a metal valve stem you have the TPMS. If your valve stem is rubber then you don't have the TPMS.

The metal valve stem is how the TPMS connects to the wheel.

Went on eBay and bought THESE.

They look SICK! They are just black powder coated acorn style lug nuts. They are really top quality too!
