I don't go off-roading so I don't need any major tools. I carried a complete socket set for 12 years in my 1st gen. and never had to use them. I used it on other people's cars though.

Cell phone to call my boyfriend to come fix it :p

I have emergency roadside service from Toyota and Geico if needed.
I do have a tow strap, jumper cables, tire changing tools, tie downs. I've been working on adding things just in case, but I don't know how to fix anything anyway. I'm going to add a fire extinguisher, flash light and some recovery items.

After carrying a full tool kit for many years I found I never used it. Now all I carry is a flashlight, a tow strap and a Swiss Army knife.

I've seen enough episodes of Macgyver thus I only carry the following: Duck tape, gum, flashlight, ratchet straps, knife. I should be able to concoct something to survive/repair any problems. Gum is key.

Exactly... The only tools I carry are jumper cables. If something goes wrong that I can't fix (or my husband can't deliver the tools to help fix) - then either toyota (until warrantee is up) or AAA will get a phone call.

I never even carried tools with me in the trail built & abused 15 year old Jeep when I drove it on the street and never needed any either. I loved that Jeep!

Monkeyproof, I was curious to know if those large sockets are the largest that one would need on the 2nd gen Tacoma's? Also do you carry the deep socket ones as well?

the 36mm socket is for the nut that holds the CV half shaft to the spindle..it's also a deep socket..that's the largest you'll need for the taco, the other large ones are the LT suspension i have. the 19 and 21 is used lug nuts and my breaker bar..it's a combo socket really..19 on one end, 21 on the other end

I usually figure 5 years for a battery. Did your OEM battery fail sooner ?

Don't keep much in mine. Just keep a socket set, pair of pliers, and all in one screwdriver in the compartment under the rear seat.

Curious, to those w/o a tool box, where do you all keep your tools? Ive tried keeping mine in the compartments behind the seats but with every turn I give all I hear is rattling coming from the back.
