Can you haul dirt bike in double cab short bed?

Hey folks, curious George here ...

Is it feasible to haul 1 dirt bike (like CRF250) in a double cab short bed, or no?

Anyone here doing that?

Thanks in advance.

btw, I toured the NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA this morning. I can tell you a few things about how the Tacomas are made, but only if you answer my question first ....

Just kidding!

Just put the tail gate down and strap down your bike.

I couldn't see a problem with it. You may even get it in there without the tailgait down if you angle it, but that may be dangerous with wind, and possibly get you slightly worse gas mileage. I Would go with gdawgs idea. Just make sure you've got some decent ratchet straps.

NUMMI Fremont builds hundreds of Tacomas every day (along with Corollas and Pontiac Vibes). I don't know if it is the only plant for Tacomas. It might be.

NUMMI has been making Tacomas since 1995 and they made pickups since 1991. They've made others there also. They've produced over a million vehicles.

Tour guide mentioned the Tacoma frames come from Stockton, CA. She didn't name the maker.

The truck beds are made and painted in Mexico, Baja.

The cabs, doors, etc... are stamped, welded & painted at NUMMI Fremont. Plastics are also fabbed here.

We didn't get to see the paint area ... no perfume, deodorant, etc... is allowed in there. Visitors didn't qualify!

We 24 visitors were on a tram watching the line workers guide motors, truck beds, bumpers, you name it onto the frames. They work under Toyota Production System (TPS) with Japanese mfr. concepts like Kaizen, Muda, Kanban, etc...

NUMMI employs 4,700 UAW union workers and 800 salaried. Guide said she bought her Tacoma at dealer cost + delivery charge (I think that's what she said).

Any rate, I walked around a small portion of the massive parking lot ... Tacomas everywhere, employee owned, every model and color, no surprise there.

The bulk of the engines are not made at NUMMI. I forgot where they are made. nummi does some assembly onto the motors though, like exhaust headers on, hoses, etc...

Everything is like assemblyline clockwork, quite a sight to see. The body weld robots are a trip to see ... like something out of Star Wars.

Tour sheet says they build 660 Tacomas per day or one rolls off the line every 81 seconds.

... although they may be 'slowing the line' a bit these days
