In my opinion the hilux has a stiffer ride than the tacoma, atleast the ones that are here in the Dominican Republic... i would definetlly trade mines in if the tacoma had a diesel d4d engine

if it was priced right and came with an inline 6 diesel, like the vw touareg. gobs of torque and easy to work on.

    Nothing yet, brand new!
I'd be running to the dealer to buy one. Sadly we will never get one. I only say that because every year I hold on hoping finally the factory will see that we want to have them but for whatever reasons they won't bring them to market.

I have to admit that I would rather go with a full size if I am going to be driving a truck with a turbo diesel. Having a turbo diesel in a Tacoma seem totally impractical and pointless to me.

EDIT: Are the Hilux trucks turbo diesel? If so, I might have to rethink this:D

They're a half ton not a quarter ton like our Tacos. Hence the stiffer ride.

I don't mind diesels, but I prefer the ease of gas engines. Not to mention having to let it turbo cool each time you took it out for a drive is a pain in the ass.

And while I haven't had any issues with them, diesels and cold = Not best bed fellows.

Oh, and no matter how long you let it sit, a diesel will never heat the cab at -30ºC> at idle.

Don't the new diesels come with a plug in to help them stay warm?

Diesel and cold are fine these days, even my 89 golf diesel starts fine in cold times.

Diesels can't warm -30? That is the only engine you would ever want in cold conditions, it can warm you just fine and can idle for very long periods of times. Not to mention you can refuel a running diesel, unlike with gas.

Bottom line is that a diesel would be perfect for a taco, and i would take the Touraeg Diesel no doubt about that. It is a V6 that has almost as much HP and almost twice the torque. For you southern guys, a diesel is even better since you can abuse it in the hot weather, since it runs cooler.

Besides, only a diesel engine can work fully submerged :p also, you can tune the Turbo not for acceleration, but for linear torque line. That way it would make the taco the perfect off roader :D

Hehe... I've watched some crazy Offroad race from russia, and this diesel truck's hood was fully submerged and you could see it working under water, bubbling and everything :D was cool.

I would love to if they were smart about it.
I doubt the marketing department would let them put a 4cyl TDI that 'only' makes 160hp...forget the 350ft/lbs that make it a truck.
    A 6sp manumatic....
No, it would have to be so overdone that it would cost $40k then they would complain that 'nobody in America buys diesels'....unless they're from VW.

There is an Inline 5 from VW that makes 400 torque. That is a sweet spot imo, but we will never get that gem.

That's sick... I thought the video I posted was pretty amazing when I saw it, a diesel toyota from back in the day that survives the ocean tide, being set on fire, and dropped off a building... pretty freakin amazing!
