    hey guys,

for those of you with the rear loacker, how long does it take for the locker to engage? i have tried to engage it several times, but i just cant seem to get it to engage.
i put it in 4Lo and press the locker switch and wait several minutes, but the locker light never stops blinking.

i have tried to engage it while in gear and while in neutral.

    does anyone have any ideas?

    thanks,

Move forward after engaging it, while turning the wheel from left to right

What does turning the wheels to the right or left do?
Mine takes forever as well. I move back and forth a few times and it eventually locks in. Kind of frustrating though.

It aligns the gears in the rear.

x2 I was having the same problem, now I just lock up and crawl forward while turning slightly left and right like chris said and it hooks right up

ahh... perfect, that worked. it feels like both rear shafts have to turn at a different speed to engage the locker. i had to turn the wheel ever so slightly for it to engage.

is a popping sound normal right when it engages?

i am new to the 4x4 and i am not familiar with all the noises all the systems make and i am really babying the truck :)

    thanks, man.

Popping is normal, and will quiet down as everything breaks in. :)

    .

I assume that this goes for a ... 4x2 with a rear locker.

I have a 2009 TRD, OR 4x2 (8 mos old, 8,000 miles) and I have not engaged the rear locker yet.

    Thanks

What do you guys with locking diff do while driving in snow/ice on pavement? Can you engage the locker or do you wish at this point that you had a LSD?

The locker only works in 4low... so chances are you wont use it much in the winter. Unless you did the locker mod.

having said this, the 09's have auto LSD rear diff, which uses your ABS brakes to brake one wheel so it's as if it works like a LSD... But different technology.
