bed mat

Ordered and received my first modification for my '08 Tacoma TRD. Purchased a bed mat from Truck Specialties. Delivered rolled up, removed it from the package and placed it in my 6 ft bed. Fit like a glove! Lay flat with no issues in the corners, etc. The factory bed liner is okay and I will keep it installed; the bed mat will keep items from sliding around.

sweetheart....the factory bedliner is the bed.....if u take it out, u'll have nowhere to put that new mat. the entire bed is fiberglass/plastic composite material. the entire inside of the bed is one piece and bolted directly to the frame. there's no taking that puppy out unless ur replacing the entire bed

I kept my bed liner too. I didn't want strap the cargo directly to the frame rails.

So, there's no metal bed beneath the black fiberglass in my bed?

That must be some tough fiberglass...because I'm fat, and I can jump up and down on it.

The bed is made of 'Fiber-reinforced Sheet-Molded Composite (SMC)' as shown on this page at Toyota.com. New owners aren't the only ones who think that the bed has a liner. Check out this long-term review at Motor Week. They say:
Quote:
...this box is 6-foot long, made of tough composites, has a factory sprayed-in bed liner,...
and
Quote:
...the 6-foot composite cargo box, with spray-in bedliner and adjustable tie downs, is perfect for weekend chores.
Guess if it fools the people who review trucks a new owner shouldn't be too upset by not realizing that the bed is composite. I bet most salespeople never mention it unless they are asked about it.

I told the sales guy that it was a composite bed, and he said it was just a bed liner. I knew better, so I let it go. This is the same guy that said the cd player played mp3's and had an aux input.
