When I was younger and took mechanics class, they taught us to never mix coolant that are different colors due to different chemical composition. If your vehicle has red coolant in there, always replace it with red coolant. If your vehicle has green coolant, replace it with green. You can only switch if you completely flush out the system and don't leave any of the old stuff in there, which should only be done if you have access to a coolant flush machine.

Sorry to dredge up such an old post, but i noticed the other
day that my reservoir was a little low on coolant...

It isn't below the low level and i checked it hot and cold,
but it is lower than when i bought it.
No signs of leaking anywhere that i can see??

Is it normal for a newish truck to use a little during breakin?
    i'm only at ~15k miles.

Def. will use the Toyo Red mixed 50/50 with distilled water to top it off,
but wondering if there may be other issues?

    Thanks,
    PC

Mine is doing the same and has been since i got the truck used with 40k miles, (now have 104k) the truck has no leaks and is running like a champ so I'm not going to worry about it. A friend mechanic said it could be that the distilled water you put in the system could also be slowely evaporating with time because the actual pure coolant should not evaporate. AS long as you don't have to add to the resorvoir every week or month than you should be okay.

I was losing some coolant around the hose connecting the radiator to the overflow reservoir. I picked up two small hose clamps and snugged them down at both ends...no more loss of coolant.

Check out this for a less expensive alternative to the Toyota Factory coolant

I had a slow leak from the weep hole at 19000 miles. I couldnt see it until i crawled under the truck with the skid plate off and saw a thin pink crust trail coming from the hole just under the water pump shaft. The leak was so slow that it was evaporating halfway down the engine block. Might be worth checking out next time youre under the truck.
