Was out tearing it up a bit today on some dirt. . .

Was coming up on a turn I wanted to be down in 2nd for, so I positioned my hand on the shifter (4.0 V6 auto). Without realizing it, I pushed the stick into neutral ahead of where I wanted to shift at all.

I revved the bejesus out of it for about 2-3 seconds. Obviously I didn't HEAR it bouncing off the rev limiter at first (radio was on), but I know I had my foot on the gas that long. I obviously let off the gas as soon as I DID hear it.

I've got 7.5k miles on the odometer. It runs and drives fun, but I feel like a complete moron, and I'm all finger's crossed I didn't stress any internals or worse. 4.0 seems like a big engine to bounce off the limiter.

I used to take my 87 celi with a little 3S-GE into red territory all the time, but that thing begged for it :)

I guess I'd love to hear that it's probably fine, but if it's not, or I DO have something to worry about/check, I'm even more interested in hearing that.

Admitting the problem is the first step on the road to recovery.

I'm sure it's fine. I've bounce off the limiter before and nothing happens. Does anybody know exactly how it works, What's being limited, spark or what?

think its a fuel cut off as well as spark...thats how it worked in my mazda...but i may be wrong...in my manual, i have hit red from time to time, its all good, bought my 07 3 months ago with 9,900 miles and certified preowned warranty is till 100k or 7 years...so i dont care what i do to it...it will mostly stay stock just bolt ons .. so if i do f something up, stock intake back on, blah blah, but so far no engine mods

Exactly. The limiter prevents you from over revving the engine and causing damage. It's fine.
