No doubt this has been asked but... what kinda punk bitch steals a tailgate and then brags about it by admitting it in a message board poll?

    Pathetic.

I bought a tailgate lock when I bought my tonneau cover. It also should keep the tailgate from getting stolen. It wont keep a determined thief out of the bed but since you can't tell what is in the bed it might deter a thief from taking the time and risk of tearing into it not knowing if the bed is empty or full of valuables.

    Hmmmm....

Driving home today, saw this Taco. Wanted to catch him at a red light to confirm my suspicions, but he turned.

Saw no damage to his rear bumper, so one can only assume.....

Quick easy cash and it's not just meth-heads and not just Taco tailgates. Lots of schools and churches are having their AC units stolen, thieves are stealing copper wire and pipes, anything that they can turn around and get easy cash for. This country is going down the tubes as morality and integrity drop out the bottom. The great thing is, with Obama as president, you can stay on welfare, not have to look for a job AND you can wander around looking for stuff to steal off the productive members of society to supplement your freeloading lifestyle...ain't life grand!?!

Exactly this....I did not imply at all that this driver had a stolen tailgate. That's ridiculous. If he were to steal one, why not grab one already painted to match....of course my thought was he had HIS ripped off and got another one as a replacement. Talk about being too quick to judge...

As an aside, last night I did the tailgate clamp mod, and also the washer mod on the tailgate support strap.

Installed the clamp with the screw facing straight down; a thief would have to crawl underneath the bumper fiddling with finding the clamp screw.

As we all know, if they want to steal it, they will. But time isn't a thief's friend. These simple mods are likely to deter a potential thug (hopefully) and they'll move on.

My buddy back in SoCal had his tailgate stolen a few months ago at a train station parking lot. Didn't have an anti-theft device or hose clamps on it at the time.

I put a TUFFY tailgate protector on my 2013. The tailgate mounting bolts are staked and I had to grind/drill the old bolt head off to install the protector.

So, after reading some (not all) of this thread, I'm assuming 2012s with the rear-view cameras are just as susceptible?

What is the name of the product pictured above?

I don't understand the demand for tailgates. Who is buying tailgates in mass amounts? The Tacoma, the Tundra, and the Chevy Silverado are having tailgates stolen at a high rate. I just don't get it.

You don't even need anything as fancy as that, just a hose clamp and maybe some tape to prevent scratches and you're good to go.

This, They will not take the time to stop and screw with it, they will just move on to the next tailgate that they can jack in 30secs or less.
