People will steal anything if they get the chance. Around here, you gotta watch your shit, cos someone will walk off with it. I haven't had anything stolen off of this truck yet, but I haven't even had it for two months yet. And I guess it helps that it looks like shit, so nobody would want to steal anything off it.
I've had stuff like that happen before. When I was a kid, someone stole all the wheels off my Dad's Pinto during a hurricane and left the car on blocks. IN A HURRICANE. HOW.

I patrol in Rancho and can attest to this. Shit happens all the time. Someone actually swapped tailgates with mine. They took their shitty, dented up one and put it on mine and took my nice, shiny dent free one, and put it on theirs. Motherfuckers!

weird. if you add up the ppl that say theirs was stolen + the ppl that say their friends where stolen + the ppl that say theirs AND their friend. it = the same amount that people claim they stole somebodys. hehe coincidence?

At any given time there are four or five tailgates for sale on the Craigslist of Southern Ca. I think they are stealing them in one county and selling them in another county.

Anyone who doesnt install some sort of security is just asking for it to disappear. That thing comes off way too easy.

Luckily, the market for stolen tacoma tailgates seems pretty low here

Let's hope it stays that way....

I just installed the clamp on the tailgate today.. The good place to get that clamp with the "key" ( E-Z clamp) is AutoZone. cheap around 2.49 before tax. you get 2 in a pack.

Good insurance if you ask me, although I live and work in a nice area, so I don't really worry about it too much.
That is a great idea tighten till you can just turn it and then spin it till the slot for screwdriver is facing down and finish it off with a 5/16 wrench.

Same here. Apparently rednecks have better things to steal than a tailgate. And by things I mean copper

Dunno if the first gens realize you need a wrench to remove their tailgates, where as the 2nd gens are much easier.
