I didn't worry too much with most trucks I've owned but my '09 has the camera in the gate which must boost the value. I have the hose clamp and the 3/32" wire to the d-ring.

As cool as that would be, no. It's just a small loop of coated 3/32" cable that goes around the metal strap next to the hinges, through the d-rings, and is secured with a wire clamp. I don't have pictures but I could take some later if you're interested. I stole the idea from someone who recently posted the mod with pix. Let me see if I can find the thread...

Had mine stolen a few months back. Got $1250 from insurance to replace it and bought one online for $350. With the holidays coming up I was hoping It would get stolen again. I could use the extra cash!

First off I am completely joking! Getting the tailgate stolen was a royal pain in the ass! Trying to find a new one for a good price sucked and I would rather it never happened. If you do the math however $1250-$350=$900. I also have a $500 deductible so $900-$500= $400 in pocket for the trouble. Since theft is "no fault" it doesn't go against your insurance records so my monthly payment stayed the same.

Trust me, I would have preferred it never happened. I had a pretty distinct gouge on mine from backing into a weight bench. Someday I will find it. I check every white tacoma I see.

I put a big dent in my tailgate. Now no one wants to steal it, or even look at it.

nasty dent on driver's side bed panel, shabby seats, cigarette burned interior roof, missing berf bar pad, cracked rain visor, removed hood scoop, unmentionable stain on back bench?
I haven't had the tail gate stolen, probably because it's in a garage at night. However, three years ago I i didn't have a house with a garage. I parked on the street, thinking nothing of it. The next day I went out to get in the truck and noticed someone relieved me of my plastic bed liner! Yep someone ( most probably two people) took off with it during the night. I don't live in a bad neighborhood, but it is Chicago. The thing that gets me is my truck isn't very popular, I mean there are tons of dodges, chevy's up the street. What good is a plastic bed liner to a truck 2% of the population has? My guess is it was someone from somewhere else, tracking me. Because a bed liner to a double cab toyota isn't a "hot" item on the streets of the southside.

I got mine stolen on my birthday needless to say got a new one from a good junk yard for about 380.00. Did the hose clamp mod and working on a little more permanent solution. Little metal and a mig welder= infinite options:D.

So why do tailgates get stolen? There is only one thief everyone else just trying to get their tailgate back.
