FJ Gauge Pod: My new toy to play around with.

So, 6shooter (TN member. Don't know if he was ever on here) put one of these in his truck... back when he had his truck. I've been wanting to put one in my truck ever since I saw the idea. Why you ask.... just because I think it's cool. I need to figure out the wiring schematics for it and I'm gonna try and get ahold of 6shooter and see if he's willing to give me some information. I was gonna try and modify the pod and replace the center thermometer gauge with something custom... but after taking it apart, that may not be possible. Here's some pics for you guys so you can check it out.

here's a pic I made of the plug:

top row of wires: red w/blue tracer, yellow w/red tracer, solid gray, solid red.

bottom row of wires: white w/black tracer, purple w/red tracer, brown w/white tracer, solid green.

not sure when I'll get this in or if I'll keep it stock or mod it, but wanted you guys to maybe give some input and thoughts.

Yeah I remember seeing pics of this in 6shooter truck (one of my favorite tacomas ever) and thought it was a really awesome idea. Can't wait to see it installed in your truck!

He did have a badass truck. Too bad he got rid of it. I wish my truck looked like his, but time and funds always slow that down. Someday it'll get there though.

it's used. got it from a junkyard in my area. paid $100 for it. pretty cheap compared to what they are being sold for on ebay and definitely better than what they are being sold for new. the best part about it is that it came with the plug and about 2" of wire. most of the ones i've seen don't come with the plug.

what size are the guage holes? couldnt you just drop some autometer guages or something in the 3 spots and wire it right up. if you just want the middle one, maybe you can stil squeeze one in with some trimming of the white plastic

whats the front of it look like without the guages in it, the front with jsut 3 bare holes.

This sounds like it has some potential if the front trim allows for this. I would love for the trans temp to be displayed.

ya, i know 6 was having quite the time with it. the inclinometer is "freestanding". it acts just like a plain level. the wiring is all for the illumination of the gauges, the thermometer, and the compass. the compass doesn't just work by a magnet. there is wiring and a circuit board involved.

here's pics of the face plate that ppl want to see.

as you can see.... if you want to replace or mod any of the gauges some modding would have to be done to the plastic faces. the gauge sizes are about 1-15/16" to 2". if anyone was to replace these gauges a 2-1/16" gauge could possibly work, but definitely not a 60mm.

the only problem 6 had was getting the thermometer to work. he said the compass and illumination were no problem.
