I am new here, but I thought I would chime in on this one. Yahoo Autos the used section. I have seen taco's double cab 4x4s as low as 10k yeah it had 170k miles on it. But they are there.. With the savings you getting you could afford to ship it. Look at your local craigslist.com for home run shipping companies. Buying out of state can save you thousands.

EDIT: Trucks with under 50k miles about 20k for the double cab 4x4s

Thanks for the information guys. I did not expect to pay quite that much for a Tacoma but I will keep an eye out for a good deal. Sooner or later something will happen. The ATV and motorcycle market is a different story, there are some really good deals around at the moment. Like I said, I am not in a big rush. I have nothing bad to say about my truck at the moment, I would even consider another Frontier but don't care for what they offer with the crew cab long beds and the resale is not very good. There is actually a few things I wish the Tacoma had from the Frontier, like the track system and 4 wheel disc brakes.

Thanks for the input, this is the truck I am looking to get. Double Cab Long Bed in the metallic gray with a set of Moto Metal 951's... Well maybe a small lift also :D

I would never buy something without checking over every inch of the truck inside and out. And putting at least 100 miles on it if it's used before I would consider buying it. All of the good deals on Craigslist are scams anyway.

I believe Tacomas do have the track system, and you don't have to buy an LE or crew cab to get it...

Yes, they do have a track system but I prefer the track system in the Frontier. You can get the track system in any V6 Frontier.

Get the Silverado and you'll just end up paying the difference in repair bills and fuel costs.

If you actually need a full size, go for it. If you just like the price difference, that's a mistake.

The used prices around here are almost equal and sometimes more than a new one. My truck' sticker was a little over $31K and invoice was $28.3. I paid invoice price with a lojack included then another $1k less for rebate so it was $27.3 for an 09 TRD OR JBL DC 4x4 and my cousin's truck bought a month later than mine was stickered just under $27K 09 TRD OR AC prerunner and bought it for $22.5 after rebate also. The used prices that I've seen is at around these prices or more. You are on the right track with your budget though, around $20K = 50K miles or more.

btw, I had a lifted Silverado ZR1 4x4 for 5 years driven hard and the only repair done to it was the battery and a dash light bulb going out both covered by warranty. I would have gotten another one but wanted a smaller truck.

The difference in fuel economy is almost negligible. Silverado 5.3l motors are getting near 16mpg average, while I'm seeing 17-18 average for the 4.0L tacomas. Figure in the extra cost of premium fuel (possibly needed on tacomas I guess? not needed on silverado), and really, there is no difference.

Maintenance = free either way for the first 3 years!

The only reason I'd need the full size is the added cabin room. The extended cab silverado is very tempting (given that it has good enough room in the rear for a few people, and it has a great bed size). They're also relatively small for a full size, making the decision difficult.

Bringing the thread back on topic (sort of), how are you guys seeing invoice price??? I always assumed MSRP was sticker price (what you see on the truck itself, with options calculated in). Where are you finding these "invoice prices"???

Just ask the dealer to show you. You can also go to Edmunds.com but they don't include the 569 dollar advertisement fee that every Toyota dealership in my region puts on all of their vehicles. My dealer just sent me the invoice by email.

Most bigger and good dealership will show you the invoice. If they don't, walk away because I know they will play games with you. If buying new, I suggest you contact a fleet manager and not an internet manager. Bigger dealerships want to sell in volumes and not necessarily make profit on a sale. Why sell 2 tacomas in a month when you can sell 20? Dealerships get a bonus from manufacturer's for selling so many units.

I suggest you start getting quotes online if you are wanting to buy new. Most dealership will beat or match it. I could have bought my Tacoma somewhere else for the same price that I paid but I opted for the dealership that gave me 3 per year oil changes for life.

It does not really matter what they say invoice is. Bottom line is they are making money no matter what. You are not going to know the true cost. But, if they sold it at the true cost they would have no money to run the business.

Anyway, I seen my local dealer had Double Cab Long Bed in stock so I went to check it out today. Overall I really like the truck other than the track system and it does not have as much torque as my truck. Not a big deal but it just does not pull as hard. This was the first DC LB that I drove and I had no problem at all with it being too long and I think it looks even better in person. Now, I have spent a decent amount of time driving a Chevy 3500 dually crew cab with an 8ft bed and that thing is waayyyy toooo loooooong.
It was an 08 TRD Sport with 27000 miles on it and they said bottom dollar was $26,900 plus tax. I passed on that price because I would like to get a metallic gray 09 with the backup camera and MP3.
Basically I would like to pay 10K difference for a Tacoma. (sell my truck for $15K and get a Taco for $25K)

I paid about $25k for an 08, 4X4, TRD OR last January. The truck was new (08 clearance) and had a $2000 rebate. It stickered around $31k.

I was able to get the truck the night the rebate was expiring. They locked enough info in the computer to hold the rebate. I backed out of the deal. Toyota let the rebates expire. Dealer called me in a panic. Offered another $1000 off if I would take it. Otherwise they were going to have to sell an 08 for close to sme as an 09.

Now that is more like it. If I could get a new one for 25K I would do it today.

Just keep looking.. I was an Autotrader.com hound.

I started looking around the summer time of '08.. Like you found it hard to believe that the prices could stay so high.. But as they say "the proof is in the puddin".

I finally came across a deal in July of '09..

'08 Double Cab Prerunner Sport, 4053 miles.. That's right 4053 miles..
    Internet price $24999..

Traded in a '01 VW GTI got $5000, some cash down and I got a Tacoma built in Oct. of '08 for less than $20,000 out the door..

I purchased a white 2007 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner 2WD automatic with the TRD off road package (Not that means a whole lot) for $17,500 last April and that was from a reputable dealership. Looks and rides brand new to me I'm happy with it gives me a chance to add on what I want.

I'm sure you can get a 2010 prerunner access cab for about $25K or less but if you want a DC and 4x4, you're either gonna have to wait until Feb or March of 2010 to see any rebates to get that price closer to $25K. But would you really let about $2K determine whether you get a new one or a used one?

I need a double cab long bed 4X4 for my needs so it looks like the wait continues. And no, I wouldn't buy a used one for only 2K less. The thing is I see all these used Tacoma's online for crazy prices but do they really sell??? I mean who wouldn't just pay 1-3K more for a brand new one?? That is the reason vehicles lose 5K as soon as you leave the lot.

My advice is to wait until after Christmas. Car dealers start having year end clearance sales that run into January. Maybe different this year with moving the production line.
